This was our second visit to Luine and its very old Petroglyphs. The previous visit was in heavy rain in 2010 with difficult footing. In September 2013 we had dry sunny weather so we could enjoy the Beauty of this Park which is full of large rocks and many petroglyphs. I totally agree with another reviewer that Luine should be better known and given more publicity.
The people who are caretakers here are extremely friendly and gave us useful directions for finding some of the oldest rock art in the park. It was the "yellow" route to Rock #6. We took many photos even though the lighting was not perfect. There are some nice views of the town of Darfo Boario Terme below.

It looks like a game to walk on the marked path and look for the scarvings on the rocks. It is not always easy to find them due to the light and shadows but it's fun!

We toured the Parco delle Incisioni, Rupestri di Grosio Castle in April, 2018. “Alesandro” was our guide. He was very good, easy to understand, and invested in what he does. This park has petroglyphs from over a thousand years ago, carved in a huge rock area. We walked around them, and then, taking our shoes off, walked directly on the rock to see more. We were followed by the castle cat – a cute thing that followed us throughout our tour. The tour was very interesting.

This park and its buildings were amazing. In the evenings there was live music and most days there was some sort of event on.The restaurant looked lovely and menu looked good.

Dear Ms. Sue,
I would like to thank you for the compliments. In the last year we had many events in Luine but the area is a Archeological Park, place of culture and the structure don’t have a restaurant.
Yours sincerely.

We visited this prehistoric site and were greeted by an enthusiastic woman who loves the place and transmits her joy and fascination to visitors. Now if only the government would invest...

One of a series of ancient settlements in the Valcamonica of the Central Alps, this is now a wonderful and very special public park of UNESCO status.
Here, I discovered a treasure trove of rock engravings of the naïve style dating from the epi-palaeolithic period (approx. 10,000 BC) to the post-Roman era.
Despite a language barrier, the caretaker was very helpful and later explained to me how in the 1970s she had discovered a number of the engravings, including a very early depiction of a deer (which, alas, I overlooked) and a rudimentary circular labyrinth at the spectacular, yet modestly named, Rock No 34. Ultimately, the Archaeological Park of Luine was created.
Together with the Municipal Administration of Darfo-Boario Terme the caretaker and her family take very good care of this enduring site. It is a peaceful and lovely place to visit.

Another hidden gem nestled in the ever surprising backroads of the Camonica Valley.
Maybe less known than other bespoken rock engracing parks in the area, Luine is a family-friendly excellently maintained site a few miles from the Boario spas and Iseo Lake (Floating Piers, anyone)
It boasts some if the oldest engravings in the Unesco Heritage area and offers stunning views on the Lombard Alps and you can get a glimpse of sunshine reflections off the blue waters of Iseo Lake as well.
Some rocks will challenge your vision. We're talking about 10,000 yo petrogliphs here. But definitely enjoyable. A must do.
PS. It'a free! 😊

We entered through a monitored gate and were greeted by a young guide who lead us into his visitor centre, explained the site and showed us maps and timelines. We walked two of the three routes and found it a privilege to see the rock carvings in the area and learn as much as possible of these very early inhabitants. The oldest carvings in the valley are at this sight. Entry is free! It can be said that other sites in the valley are possible better maintained but they charge an entry fee. All of these sites are UNESCO heritage sites and that says something of their importance.

The park is very well managed, perfectly clean and maintained. Walking between the sacred red rocks with the carved ancient pictures is a spiritual and elevating experience.

Darfo Boario Terme, Italy

Ciao a tutti.
Buona Pasquetta a tutti.

Parco di Luine
Darfo Boario Terme, Italy
Buongiorno Sig. Agostino
Cordialmente Direzione Parco Luine
