A nice walk - a must do on Skye
maj 2021.
As you drive out the Staffin road their is a lay bye on the left with parking meters - drive past this and enter int a new big car park on the left- again you have to pay - start the walk through the first gate and then take the left path - it’s only 5 minutes longer than the one on the right but it’s easier. When you clim the steps at the top it’s easy going to go round the old man himself

Like you've been dropped into a fantasy movie

From miles out you can see atmospheric panoramas of The Storr, the Old Man and the Needle. The walk up is steep, and through some desolate tree graveyard (that the council is planning to replant in future years) but soon you approach the cliff face and the views are breathtaking.

We had sun, snow and rain on the way up and it all gave different views of the rocks. Not as busy as we'd thought either which was great.

Felt like you could be in middle earth or westeros, absolutely magical.

In future years the area will be even more naturally beautiful with woodland rising, but for now it still deserves to be a must see in Skye and beyond.

A HIKING GEM
apr 2020.
We climbed up the old man of storr in April. The views were absoloutley stunning. we did want to get drone footage but it was extremly windy. If you are going, not that it can get windier the higher up you go and it's nice to take snacks to have at the top while you take in this breathtaking view. But do take your trash with you. We absoloutley enjoyed our trip there.

Worth the walk.
dec 2020.
There is a pay and display car park at Storr which we found to be pretty busy.

There are two different routes you can choose, we decided on the one to the left and started the walk up to the old man, and found this pretty hard going.

We got about 3/4 of the way up before the path became very narrow and steep.

They are currently constructing a walkway which will certainly make things easier.

It’s is well worth the walk, as the views from this height are absolutely amazing

A must if you are visiting Skye
okt 2020.
Lovely iconic sight and a must to visit.

The car park was roomy but the machines did not work when I was there - just taking the money and no ticket. Not something to ruin the trip but there are maintenance issues here as there were two machines doing this.

The paths and directions are sensitively laid out and constructed so that none of the natural beauty is compromised.

There is a walk right round the rock which takes around two hours

Fantastic and Fun
nov 2020. • Parovi
Me, my husband and our 2 dogs did this and it was brilliant. It rained the whole time but it was well worth the hike up. Quiet, only passed a few people. Lovely views all the way up. The new car park is coming along nicely and will be much better with toilets added when finished. Paid £5 as didn’t have much faith in myself doing it in any less!! However only took 2 hours to do the walk up and down.

Views are spectacular...
nov 2020.
One of the highlights of the Trotternish peninsula. Only 6 miles north of Portree. It’s a bit of a slog up to the Old Man but they are in the process of building a rather attractive stone path, the views are spectacular and you can be back at the car within 2 hours. You can’t leave Skye without doing this walk!

Must do!!
nov 2020. • Parovi
We initially planned to walk closer to the rocks as we didn’t have much time on our hands but we ended up going right up to the top and it was amazing. I am so glad we went up to see the inner circle! The weather changed so drastically a few times but cleared for us at the top which was stunning. It took us around 45 minutes to get up and 30 minutes to come down. I would say it is a steep walk to the top at parts. A car park is being built but we managed to park right beside the plot and it was a £3 charge. It was relatively quiet when we went on the walk and there was maintenance work being done to the paths too. Only about 15 minutes drive from Portree. I would highly recommend this walk to everyone visiting Skye!!

Too many people and roadworks
okt 2020. • Porodično
You can’t even avoid roadworks half way up a mountain in Skye! It was like a motorway going up here with crowds of people ruining the experience. No solitude or reflection. Just a queue of people going up to look at a large rock! Granted, the view was splendid until it started pouring with rain, ruining another day on Skye! They were also building an enormous car park so be prepared for even more queues in future! They need to have more routes up to the top. Also, why have they cut down many trees and left the branches and trunks scattered everywhere. When they cut the trees down why don’t they remove the whole tree rather than leaving masses of tree waste everywhere? Just asking?

Great parking
okt 2020. • Prijatelji
Great landmark to see and good roads out of there from Portree. Parking is £3 and plenty of space (which is an issue with some other locations)
