The current, modern incarnation of a historical bridge over the Lech river. The place is very lively especially on weekends as the gateway to the forest, Eiskanal, and Kuhsee lake (for sunbathing and swimming), and significant as part of Augsburg's World Heritage sights.

Located in the so called Kuhsee, the Hochablass can be visited through a guided tour but it can be also walked in any season, passing by the river and accessing to the other side, where the Kanu-Strecke is located. Beautiful views, peaceful place and plenty of biergarten and imbiss kiosk around the lake, make this place a wonderful one in the city of Augsburg

When we are staying in Augsburg or Hochzoll-Sued (with family) we always grab some bikes to have a ride across the Hochablass into the 'Siebentisch Wald'. It is a beautiful nature reserve.
Crossing the Hochablass means having wonderful views to the Kuhsee (the water reservoir), Lech (the river) and the Eiskanal (the official canoe slalom venue for the 1972 Summer Olympics which is still in use).
Go in Summer and the water is low and likely you wont see much apart from a beautiful river and water reservoir used to go swimming by locals. Go in Autumn or Spring you will likely see a beautiful show put on by nature with lots of colors and a lot more water coming through the Hochablass.
It's a view point used by many to take time out.

The Hochablass together with the Kuhsee are a nice place to walk or bike around. There is a small bistro where you can order food, drinks and ice-cream from.

Walking/biking trails, cafe/restaurant, swimming, relaxing, clothing optional sunbathing (limited areas!) - Hochablass/Kuhsee has it all. I love hanging out there when I am in town.

Since the middle ages the augsburg city hydro-power source is extracted here from the river Lech, in the past hundreds of manufactures used that water power, but also for transportation, cooling or hygienic demands.

Schauen Sie doch mal in SW-Augsburg (Stadtwerke Augsburg)
