In short, an amazing tour which we cannot recommend highly enough! For a longer review read on...

Girona is such a fantastic town that we have visited many times and for a long time we wanted to be guided around the incredible array of food stores, markets and restaurants that the city offers. The quality generally is very high indeed, but we were still missing local knowledge and the inside track on things.

Girona Food Tours has a nice shop window in the centre of town that caught our eye years ago but this time we emailed to make contact. We got a very quick reply from Marc, the proprietor who we met and immediately liked. So... we signed up, the two of us.

Just at the moment, tourism is a little quiet in Spain of course, but even though we were just a group of two, Marc made a special Itinerary for us tailored to our wish to see local food and to discover Catalan flavours. Typically the tour might be four hours, but by the time we had been introduced to the owners of all the shops we went to and had little samples of delicacies and visited the amazing Girona food market and stopped five times for a drink or bite to eat, we ran to more like seven hours! This wasn’t bad planning, but instead just a sign that Marc loves his work. He loves to guide and show and teach and his passion meant that no one was checking the clock.

There’s really too much to relate, but we met the lady whose shop makes chocolate and owns the African estate where the cocoa beans are picked (amazing), a very old bakery, an amazing Jamon shop, met a farmer and sampled
Cheese including some he makes himself, an amazing butcher and fishmonger... I could go on.

Marc is at last fully open for business following lockdown and if you want a special day of laughter and culinary adventure you should go. I won’t say the price, but it really was not expensive All the tastes and food along the way was part of the package but I must admit that we couldn’t resist buying quite a few gorgeous foods and wines.

Our expedition has been a highlight of the trip to Girona and I think it’s an absolute must. This is starting to sound like an advert, but it’s just an honest review from two people that had an amazing time and would love you to share it too!

My family visited Girona recently and took the Girona food tour with Marc, who was a fantastic guide. He gave us a great introduction to the city and the culture of Catalonia. This was one of the best parts of our trip around Northern Catalonia. I would recommend this to anyone who loves food, and wants to get a good idea of the sites and tastes this lovely city has to offer. Also, because we had a rental car, Marc suggested a a little tour of the area's Medieval villages and visits to the coast, which were memorable drives, with more great sites to see and food to eat!

This was the highlight of our recent visit to Girona. We had a wonderful time walking through the beautiful city and tasting amazing pastries, bread, chocolate, ham, wine and other local delicacies. Even the teenager in our group loved it! Marc is a great guide and delightful storyteller and we learned so much about the food and history of Girona. The entire team at Girona Food Tours was friendly, responsive, and we left feeling like old friends. I am already looking forward to our next trip to Girona and another experience with Girona Food Tours.

The last night we were in Girona we booked the 'Tapas and wine experience by night' tour, and man, what a good choice was that.

We were taken in a trip in Girona where we visited a number of shops and tasted a number of excellent things with accompanying wines, and while we were enjoying the food, our excellent guide Marc, flooded us with all kinds of information on Girona, history and you could ask any question you wanted. During the tour he pointed out nice things in the city (which we apparently missed in the days before...).

It was sas we did it at the last night, as he was providing tips on where to eat and what to see in Girona as well. But as we were visiting more cities in Catalonia he provided us with things to see along the road as well.

To make it more challenging for Marc, he needed to take into consideration that I was in a wheelchair (which can be a real challenge in Girona), but he nicely planned around it and offered help when necessary.

To summarise, book this tour when you have the chance, and do it at the start of your stay in Girona.

We recently visited Gerona and “Girona Food Tours” was recommended as "not to be missed". Our guide and founder Marc took us to a number of culinary highlights (which is saying something in a city that is a culinary Mecca!) from the obvious stops like Rocambolesc Ice Cream, to some you'll share mainly with locals like the amazing Market Lion . Marc had great access being a local himself and we received a warm and generous welcome at every stop, from Gironell Carnisseria where we were treated to their own sausages; Farmhouse Alba for some amazing artisanal cheeses; La Reserva Espai Gourmet where Marc explained the intricacies of the famous ham Pata Negra Iberico de Bellotas, which we enjoyed with some excellent Cava chilled to perfection; L'Arros for some local-styled Paella with some more delicious Cava; Casa Cacao, the last creation of the Roca Brothers (El Celler de Can Roca) where we were treated to a tasting session by one of the masters in the pastry world, Damian Allsop (chocolate will never taste the same after this!), and had a local delicacy, the Xuixo pastry; to close at Rocambolesc for a taste of the famous Panet, a hot brioche filled with ice-cream and toppings (insane!). You can of course choose to have the Mojito sorbet or Parmesan ice cream. Please note that Marc will make adjustment for your preferences or any food intolerance and will also improvise on the spot to give you an amazing experience. ADVICE: come hungry and ready to taste and explore. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful tour with Marc. He is a great host! He guided us through the city at night. We were able to discover not only the local flavors but also the history and interesting facts about Girona. It is an experience that I would recommend to anyone who is visiting Girona, next time I will make sure to visit during the day to be able to see the local market.

Marc is very dedicated to what he is doing and we appreciated that he transported us into the world of the locals of Girona. The food was absolutely delicious, we learned a lot of details that we didn‘t know before. We can recommend this tour to everybody! Safety regulations and saniatry measures are also in place in these challenging Covid 19 times, everything very organised.

Today, we spent a marvelous day in Girona thanks to Marc and his fabulous food tour. This was a great « balade gourmande » tasting fish, pastries, iberico jamon, tapas,...On top of these delicious food, our guide gave us a great introduction on Girona and Catalunya. This was for us an amazing experience.
Through these tough days and COVID period, all barriers have been always respected during our food tour.
We definitely recommend this activity when you are in Girona.

We booked a private market tour and cooking class and Patricia pulled of a fantastic half day for us. The Lion Market itself is a worth a visit for any foodie, however spending with a handful of vendors some time to go through their offerings was a great start to the day. Seafood, local oils, cured meats, cheeses from the region were wonderful and knowing more about the products made us come back days later by ourselves. Absolutely no hard sells during the tour, purely fun and educational.

After we got the ingredients for our lunch we headed to our personal cooking class with Xavi (separate longer review). In short, we were able to preselect a few dishes we always wanted to better understand and then were taken through the obvious steps but also the hints and tips off the recipes.

We highly recommend this tour. Many thanks, Patricia!

Our guide Pat was fabulous!! She was informative, very personable and very friendly and gave us a great introduction to the city, to Catalan history and of course to the great food choices available throughout Girona. It is 4 hours very well spent! The food and drink were excellent and kept us full right up until dinner time. Highly recommend!!
