The river flows through the center of Girona. It's not interesting in and of itself. Beautiful views will delight due to the interesting architecture along the banks of the river. Plus, there are many different bridges from which many interesting angles open up.

Possibly the most photographed River in Catalonia is the River Onya with it's many brightly painted houses of the riverfront. I think the best place to get photos of these colourful houses is between the bridges of Pont de Pedra and Pont de Feliu, which look just like the photos of the Girona tourism posters :-).

Lets just be correct here, this review is for the RIVER not anything else, so keep it all about the river.
It needs more water. It was pretty low in August. The river is clean indeed for a large European city and the birds and fish you can see add up to its charm but the most attractive feature is the buildings and their colors. Perfect place for photos, of course a few attached.
Other than that...its just a small river and you will see it one way or the other...

This features on most of the photos of Girona given the river runs right through it and is surrounded by the colourful houses and crossed by a number of bridges including the Eiffel bridge. You sort of can’t miss it if in the old town.

The Colored houses of Onyar are the main postcard of the city and we stay hosted in a apartment in the Rambla de la libertá, very close of the Casas de Onyar. Actually the Onyar River was very dry and we saw the same in Besalu, I really don't know if is the same river, maybe is something seasonal, anyway the houses are more beautiful at the photo.

The city of Girona transforms into a historical space with all the stone walls and lovely streets. Was equally excited to see tons of cyclist in the city.

While the river itself isn't much to see, what with low water levels (at least in September) and graffiti along walls, it sets the stage for a beautiful walk in Girona. The river separates the city into the the old district and new, which makes it nice for navigation. Along the river you will find a myriad of parks/benches, coffee shops, and restaurants. It's really difficult to avoid the river if you're visiting Girona.

Many folks forget about Girona... Great one or two day visit. You can get off the train and out of the station and go straight for 10-15 minutes and you will run into the River. This will be the modern Girona area. Take a left on either bank and head to the old town. You will see two huge cathedrals - use them for you land marks. As you wind your way towards the land marks you will find your self in the old Girona in magical narrow streets. On the weekends you can find vendors on the banks. Those two large cathedrals.... must stops with some off the charts museums and roman bath ruins
