Top ways to experience Piazza di Trevi and nearby attractions

The area
Neighborhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighborhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

You'll barely notice the piazza itself because 1) your eyes are inevitably drawn to the marvellous fountain, and 2) because of the number of people occupying it.

The fountain is magnificent, but the piazza is nothing special.

Why TA have separate listings for the square and the fountain? Beats me.

Great if you go weekday, you will be able to get right to the fountain and truly enjoy it from afar too.

Friday - Sunday the fountain is so busy that you will struggle to get to the fountain or be able to see much.

There are plenty of options for food and gelato nearby too.

If you need a toilet, there is a clean option in the pizzeria to the left of the fountain.

This piazza is very busy and crowded. However, the centerpiece is the beautiful Trevi fountain. You really do not notice the restaurants and shops nearby. It's great to see open outdoor dining for great people watching as you walk away from the fountain.

One of the most beautiful fountains and Squares in Rome. A very popular place to take photos and often crowded but clean with a pleasurable atmosphere. Beautiful in the evening with the fountain and water lit up. .

We stumbled across the fountain at around 9am on our first full day.
It was empty, bar one man cleaning it.
We were so underwhelmed that we didn't realise where we were. Later the same day we returned (a planned visit) and it was heaving with people.

Very busy and crowded square at any time of day. But the centerpiece is the amazingly beautiful fountain. Lots of tacky tourists shops and eateries nearby. It's good that there are lots of seats on the exterior of the fountain that you can sit and people watch.

If you wish to see the Trevi fountain then you need to visit this location at Piazza di Trevi. The location is very popular, lots of stores, restaurants, icecream shops. This area is filled with lots of tourist esp. those on the younger side, many just chilling out.my time was spent here having an icecream at the fountain and just enjoying the ambience.
A definite must-visit.

We visit the fontaine at our first day in Rome, and kept visiting it a lot of times because our hotel is so close to the area...
It is amazing place and at night looks more beautiful..
We made a wish for our new life and after that someone took our picture and we buy it he told us it will take 5 min to be seen, the moment I saw the pic I was surprised to see a light and seen it as a cross in the end of it beside me (left of the picture).. This ment to me a lot.

Piazza di Trevi is world famous and with a good reason. It's an exceptional spot with an exceptional fountain. The fountain took its name from the fact that three roads meet at this point. The Italian word for roads is vie and tre for three. This was also the point where an aqueduct ended, which explains the water. The sculpture is stunning and symbolises the water and roads story. Well wishers like to throw coins in the fountain which is donated to charity, I think. The piazza is very small considering the numbers of visitors, and is always extremely crowded. There are numerous cafes, restaurants, bars and tourist shops in the area. There are some gourmet food places too, where you can buy some great Italian cheeses and cold meats. This a is a piazza you can't afford to miss!
