About
Salone Margherita Theatre was born in 1898 in the heart of Rome. The name Margherita was a clear homage to Margherita of Savoia, King Umberto's first wife. Here typical vaudeville shows were presented to flaunt more luxury and refinement than in any theatre in Rome. In the '10s, the best comedians and the most searched soubrettes of the age appeared in the playbill of the theatre and, throughout the past century, it has been a theater attached to the revue, Roman comedy, vaudeville show and operetta. Since 2011 I Virtuosi dell'opera di Roma performed here an important part of their Concert's Season.

I think that the reviews make it pretty clear that some opera aficionados are not really impressed by Salon Margherita. I would ask what had they really expected? The small theatre only seems to seat 150-200 or so in the audience so cant possibly have fantastic sets and staging or a full orchestra at the prices they charge. If you recognise this and go with reasonable expectations, I cant see how you would be too disappointed. Singers and orchestra are excellent, service friendly and attentive and the old theatre itself is beautiful. We thought it was a great night out in Rome.
We had dinner in our box, which was good fun, if a bit cramped for four people - be aware that each course is delivered when they think each act will be finished, so can sit on the table or serving trolley for a few minutes if things aren't right on time - so some courses not really hot when served. I think that would be my only criticism of the meal which was otherwise good and not standard pasta/pizza - we had a salad, then tray of mixed starters, pasta, veal and desert - so 5 courses! There didn't seem to be any choice when we booked, and coffee not included.

Fantastic performance of La Traviata in the small cosy art nouveau opera house "Teatro Salone Margherita" which is situated near the Spanish Steps. Violetta was wonderfull and she had a great presence on stage. The orchester and its conductor were great. Everything was very well organised, during the first break everybody was invited for a pasta meal, it was very easy to buy drinks. The atmosphere was like in a private opera. To be highly recommended.

Went the whole hog and bought dinner in a box. The opulent decor, the atmosphere and the live performances gave the evening a sense of occasion and a magical air. Something that you don't find often these days. It's not a restaurant, it's about the music, you just happen to be able to enjoy it while you eat.

The entire experience was just ridiculous.
Having prebooked tickets for the opera with box and dinner we were very excited to attend.
However our excitement soon turned to dismay and quickly disbelief as events unfolded.
To begin we were told to arrive at 7.30 for the dinner option, but by ticket administrators we wer told to wait in a freezing cold semi recepetion area, after finally explaining to somone that we had a reservation we were escorted late and unapologetically to a box over the stage.
Where we could see he entire behind the scenes interactions, everything really except the opera itself. But some rather unprofessional conductments id rather not get in to.
The food was delayed 50 minutes, and even then, barely edible. The service was shocking, and even when complained I feel completly astounded as to the rude arrogant attitude of the so called manager.
I could write for hours at the inadequecy of this establshment but will leave it at this.
Severely disappointing in mediocre surroundings.

Basta leggere i giudizi positivi. Accettiamo critiche,ma il vostro ci sembra più uno sfogo senza senso. Distinti saluti

The production of Roma! that we saw in late March did not disappoint. We wanted a musical that featured the music and dances of the eternal city and we were fortunate to be part of it. The venue is in itself a nostalgic journey into the past. The cast was amazing. The music was very authentic and many genres of Roman and Italian songs and serenades were featured. We didn’t opt for the dinner option and that was fine. This was money well-spent on a wonderful journey back in time. Highly recommended.

We went to see La Traviata and had a wonderful nights entertainment. We had dinner before as the show started at 8:30pm but were advised to come early when the doors open an hour before as the seats are not allocated you are just booking an area, which is unusual. When we arrived we were shown to our area and this was fine and we held our seats with a jacket as everyone else was. We were shown as we entered that there was free salad and pasta for everyone if you would like a bowl and we thought that this was very good. We also picked up a leaflet for the opera which explained the show in English which helped us to remember the show as it progressed. It is a lovely small theatre and even if you had the cheapest seats you were not very far away from the stage. Drinks also were not expensive compared to some other theatres. The only thing was it was a long night as you are there 1 hr before the performance and it's an for 2hr 30min. Great value for an evening out and really felt like a private performance. Very central only 10 min walk from the Spanish steps. Will be back when in Rome again.

This was new to me - a theatre designed for eating and watching opera! We had a table in a box and enjoyed a typically Roman dinner. Wine was extra but reasonably priced and service was absolutely excellent. Pudding was served at the interval! We saw "La Traviata' which was simply staged but superbly sung. A great night out!

After never seeing an opera before decided to go and see la traviata at this small theatre. The lead female singer to play the role was excellent. The orchestra were very good and the theatre itself was quite cosy. They served pasta in an intermission which we thought was strange looked ok smelt like tomato soup we didn't partake as we had eaten and it was 22.15 by this time. Drinks were expensive 2 coke zero from a big bottle 4 euros each. Over all though enjoyed the experience as can now say have seen an opera

We visited the Opera Gran Gala at the Teatro Salone Margherita in July 2013. We are not particularly fans of opera but it seemed like a romantic idea to go to the opera whilst in Italy. Why not? This is a really lovely, quirky little theatre tucked away on Via Dei Due Macellli roughly half way between the Metro stops at Spagna (Spanish Steps) and Barberini. The internal decor is all red plush and gold paint and the oval shape means all seats have a great view of the stage. There are boxes all the way around the upper gallery and we were able to sit in one to watch the performance which was an experience in itself! We passed by during the day and bought tickets for the evening performance - but people were also able to purchase tickets on the night. A nice touch was that the theatre provided a steaming hot bowl of pasta (free of charge) to all guests during the interval which I thought was a lovely idea. It made the theatre feel very homely and welcoming if slightly eccentric.

The theatre runs two different performances on different dates with each programme including a selection of pieces from a range of different opera's. This was a nice introduction to opera for non-opera goers as you get a taste of different styles and composers. The programme we heard was Programme B which included pieces from The Barber of Seville, La Boheme, The Marriage of Figaro, Tosca and Rigoletto. The performance was entertaining, the costumes excellent and the singers also seemed very good. They seemed to really enjoy what they were doing.

Programme A includes extracts from La Traviata, Don Giovanni, Madame Butterfly and Carmen

Prices for seats ranged from 25 - 40 euro's and in my opinion this evening was worth the price we paid. Would definitely make a return visit. Quirky and good fun.

If you love classical music then don't miss a performance at the Teatro Salone Margherita. We had our five course dinner served to us in our box seats and what a treat that was. The performance was fantastic, very professional and of world class. The Italians certainly love to sing Italian opera.
