Frantic fashionistas, pedicured politicos, goal-oriented tourists, and on-the-go locals cross paths every day in Colonna, a delightful chaos in the very center of the city. Even though it has some of the city’s loveliest sites—a 2nd century column, Belle Epoque shopping center, and a magnificent Baroque parliament building—Colonna is not just another pretty face, but the cosmopolitan eye of Rome’s cultural storm. Colonna can safely say it has the best of Rome: museums, boutiques, window displays, restaurants, cafes, and people watching.

The Sala Umberto Theater, designed by the architect Andrea Busiri Vici, was inaugurated in 1882 as a concert hall with the name of the Teatro della Piccola Borsa.
In 1890 the capacity of the theater was enlarged to 650 seats and around 1900 it took the current name of Sala Umberto.
Between the 1910's and the 1940's it became the most important theater of Italian Varieté.
Many important Italian actors such as Petrolini, TotĂČ, Aldo Fabrizi, the De Filippo brothers, Anna Magnani, Domenico Modugno and Walter Chiari presented their shows and theatrical performances in this theater.
After some years, it was transformed into a movie theater.
In September 2002 the theatrical performances returned to Sala Umberto along with some cultural projects from contemporary theater to dance and music concerts.
It is nice theater with good acoustics.
It is a famous historical theater, with nice seats, a bar/coffee shop inside and has affordable prices.
Very popular in the city of Rome, it needs some updating and modernization.
It is very close to the metro station in Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps).

The teatro is nice! The bar at the teatro, too. All in all, a nice place to see a play and have a good coffee afterwards.
