Neighborhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighborhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

The Oratorio del Santissimo Sacramento, called also "Oratorio dell'Angelo Custode", is located in the central Via del Tritone, few steps from Trevi Fointain.
Known as the "Oratory of the Guardian Angel" (in memory of the demolished Church of the Guardian Angel) or Church of the "Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph", it was erected between 1576 and 1596 for the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament of the neighbor Church of Santa Maria in Via.
It was restored by Carlo Rainaldi in 1681 and then completely rebuilt in 1727.
The façade, made by Rainaldi, has two orders, with a play of concave and convex surfaces.
The lower order has a beautiful portal framed by two pilasters and surmounted by two heads of winged angels.
On the sides there are two half-columns with Ionic capitals which support a high broken tympanum: on the pediment halves there are two marble statues, the work of the eighteenth-century sculptor Paolo Benaglia, depicting the "Faith" and "Hope".
The interior of the church has a single nave.
It has some nice nineteenth-century frescoes by Luigi Martinori.
On the main altar there is a painting by Francesco Trevisani, from the Istria peninsula, depicting the Holy Family (1729).
After our visit to Trevi Fountain, which is nearby, we wanted to have a break and we stopped by: it was an excellent idea.
We enjoyed in silence the decorations and an antique beautiful crib.
Some lovely music was playing.
We heard and listened to that music.
It was good for the soul.
We had great feelings and prayed.
We will return

I was trying to find magnificent masterpiece of Borromini, Chiesa San Carlo al Quattro Fontane, and stumbled upon beautiful Oratorio del Santissimo Sacramento al Tritone along the way attracted by its harmonious facade with two graceful angels above the portal. The Oratorio was opened and I had a chance to see its picturesque 19th century interior adorned with frescoes by Luigi Martinori and its altar partially designed by Luigi Valadier. The ceiling is especially attractive with its deceptive painted dome effect.

Totally surprised by this tiny church, not much to look at from the outside, but a haven of fresco's and paintings on the inside, the ceiling being especially pretty, even the small diorama to the left side of the door is charming in a scruffy unkempt sort of way.

This church is known by two names: the Oratorio del Santissimo Sacramento al Tritone and Oratorio dell'Angelo Custode. However, recently it has been renamed Oratorio dell'Angelo Custode, in reference of the lost church of Angelo Custode, which used to be nearby. Hence, the dedication is now to the Guardian Angel. It was built in 1728. The Baroque façade is now attributed to Domenico Gregorini and was completed by two buildings, of which only one is left, because the other was sacrificed to the enlargement of Via del Tritone.

The interior plan is a chamfered rectangle (the corners are rounded), and is dominated by the dome. The wall and dome surfaces are richly decorated, with frescoes by Luigi Martinori dating from the 1867 restoration. There is a pair of cantoria, or cantilevered opera-boxes, for solo musical performers, flanking the apse. The altar is in a little apse, amounting to an arched niche. The large altarpiece depicting the Holy Family is by Francesco Trevisani, and dates from the 18th century rebuilding.

Also known as the Oratorio del Santissimo Sacramento al Tritone, this is a small church that I pass on the way to the Trevi fountain. The church has an attractive Baroque facade and a little bell tower to one side. Inside is a pretty, rather small church decorated in frescoes. Worth a visit if it is open while you are passing by.
