Piazza Castello
Piazza Castello

About
Designed in 1564 by Vitozzi. It's lined with porticoes and is the real heart of the city: here and hereabouts stand the great buildings that have witnessed the development of the city, from the ancient Roman era to our days. In the middle of the square stands Palazzo Madama and on the side you could see The Royal Theatre, The Royal Palace , the Royal Library (that houses Leonardo da Vinci 's operas). In Piazza Castello (The Castle Square) begin the most important central streets, like Rome Street, Po Street, Garibaldi Street and Pietro Micca Street.

A beautiful square well worth a visit. Unfortunately rained solid for 2 days while in Turin. So did not enjoy as much. Palazzo Madama very interesting and well laid out. For a good view of Turin worth going to Chiesa Di Santa Maria Del monte dei Cappuccini. From Piazza Castello by Tram 13 down via Po to the last stop and then a 15 minute walk up the hill.

Very nice graphic city centre square. We went there during Christmas time, and was very nicely decorated. A place to go when you visit Turin!

A picturesque piazza that features two palaces, palace madama and the royal palace of turin. Both palaces are both huge and very picturesque. There is also a very nice sweet shop here.

The main feeling after a visit. There is no sense of square.... This is probably due to the structure of the square. If you are standing on the side of the Palazzo Reale, then this is a normal Turin Piazza with Baroque-classicist facades, fountains spouting from under the pavers. All very well. Very Torino. If we go around the Palazzo Madama, we see two quite medieval towers with a monument dedicated to the first world war and the Central character-the Duke of Aosta, very similar to Mussolini with his square jaw. Quite a different view. Not a square, but a two-faced Janus.

Our apartment was on Piazza Castello, and it was the best location to walk all over town. We always felt safe, and for the most part, it was a clean area, with only a few homeless people staking claim under the porticos during the evening hours. While staying at Piazza Castello, we visited Palazzo Reale (great Armory) and the Church of San Lorenzo. A short distance away was Duomo di Torino e Cappella della Sacra Sindone (church of the Holy Shroud), Quadrilatero Romano/Old Town and Porta Palazzo. Piazza Castello was a fun place to people watch. The crowds at night (especially on Friday and Saturday) were fairly large but not loud or boisterous. Even if you are not staying in the area, it's a nice place to take a stroll and enjoy the nice atmosphere.

Place was crowded with multicultural ethnicities and backgrounds. Its historical preservation was one for the eye. Loved sitting on the benches and sipped my Large Coffee.

This square forms the centre of Turin and represents all that is best about the city, its regal elegance and charm, the architectural beauty and the stylish shops bars and restaurants. A visit to the Palazzo Reale or Royal Palace is a must. Soak in the sheer opulence of the gold leaf in the palace. Nearby Palazzo Madama a baroque masterpiece with medieval rear is worth a visit. Also the shops and boutiques under the arcades towards Via Roma. Try lunch at Baratti & Milano also in the square and nearby are the Sabauda Gallery and Egyptian Museum famous throughout the world. Turin never fails to attract me though I have been there so many times and it remains my favourite city, well worth a visit at any time of the year.

Purtroppo non ci sono orari precisi, forse è meglio chiedere ai vigili municipali. CIAO
