Minor disappointment, the mosaic in the nave was in restoration, so we did not get to see it. The views from the towers are interesting. The inside of the church is very plain and austere. In a way the outside is more unique, very reflective of the Norman influence on the island.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2023

We had heard so much about the mosaics in the dumo. But it came as a large disappointment because there was a huge curtain in front of where the mosaics with a photo and not the real thing. The mosaic was being refurbished.

The mosaics are completely hidden by renovation works at the end of September2023 - not a very interesting visit at the moment.

Amazing place. We were travelling from Palermo to Taormina and we wanted to stop somewhere for lunch. Cefalù and its gorgeous cathedral was a perfect stop.

Awesome experience. The exterior of the cathedral looks ordinary but the interior is guaranteed to take your breath away!

The interior of the cathedral is currently undergoing restoration work.
So you will not get to see it in its full glory.
Hard to rate it in its current condition but nice enough building.

Should we wear clothing covering shoulders and knees or are shorts allowed when visiting this church?

So sorry only just seen your question. It’s best to cover bare shoulders.

I would love to see a Sicilian cart while staying in Cefalu. Does anyone know where I could see one? Thank you!

Hi,
Drive (or take a bus trip) to the "Marsala Cantine Pellegrino Winery" in Marsala where, besides trying their wine, you will see three beautiful examples of Sicilian carts in their display area.
Enjoy.

Will the Cefalu mosaics be covered in June, around the 11 or 12 of the month?

We traveled at the end of March. The Duomo had changed their visting hours from the hours listed in our guidebook. I would check the hours upon reaching Cefalu and plan your day accordingly. I don't think they would cover for any reason in the height of their tourist season.
Also if you plan on visiting the cloisters next door check their times as well. We were there in the off season and missed their visiting hours.

Hola Minica

Is late March a good or not so good time for a week's stay in Cefalu (we will rent a villa). Is the weather acceptable for an enjoyable stay, even if it is still chilly? Is early April much different? Thanks. John

Can't help - sorry.
It was lovely weather in the first week of October and warm enough to swim in comfort
