Having watched F1 races from Imola since the 1980's, i had always wanted to visit Imola and i took my opportunity in 2022 and i am so glad i did.
I stayed in Bologna, as this has the nearest big airport and the trains take 20-34 mins from Bologna to Imola. From the station, it's a 25-30 minute walk to the track.
Imola itself is a lovely town and the circuit is just on the edge of the town in beautiful parklands.
My first stop once inside the circuit was to visit Ayrton Senna's statue. It's on the inside of the circuit close to the Tamburello corner where he lost his life on 1994. Having met him briefly myself, it was emotional and poignant.
I booked grandstand seats for the Rivazza corner for Friday and Tosa for Saturday, as i wasn't sure how much general access i would get. I shouldn't have worried as you can get to every corner except for the run from Tosa to Aqua Minerale.
As it was very rainy on Friday, it was obvious that the facilities were not up to scratch. The car parks were incredibly muddy, as were most of the paths around the track. It felt like Silverstone back in the 80's!
There was a very strange system they have when you buy a beer. You have to buy tokens at one tent, and then buy your beer with the tokens at another tent next door. Bonkers!
I'd recommend having a burger at the Cafe in the back of the grandstand on the main pit straight. It was fantastic!

Great bus tour of Imola race circuit - Agnese was really informative, and spoke very good English. Being able to stop at the pit straight and Tamburello was very special. Being driven around the track (at a slow pace) for 2 laps was a great experience, as you can feel the gradient change and understand a bit of what it would be like. We also visited Parco Acque Minerali which offered a great view of the track from the inside.

I came all the way here to visit the important sites that were related to the death of Ayrton Senna. I finally visited after 18 years and was moved by the site. The circuit has put a good memorial in place and while i was here i stayed at the Hotel Castello and stayed in the actual hotel suite that Ayrton stayed at in his final weekend. It is a shame that the Grand Prix is not still held here, but Hey Ho they could not afford the money that Bernie Ecclestone required to hold the race and Bernie needs the money towards the cost of his spoilt daughters £80 million homes.

I visited this track on November 8th to pay my respects to my childhood hero, Ayrton Senna. I arranged the visit over email with Elisa who was very helpful. I paid €75 which included a tour and a ride around the track in a safety car. We had an English speaking guide, Micaela who again was very helpful. We walked to the Ayrton Senna monument which is set in Mineral Park, it was so peaceful. Well worth the visit.

I came here in July to pay my respect to Roland Ratzenberger but especially Ayrton Senna I arrived on foot from Imola train station which took about 25 minutes. At the gate, thankfully, there was a lady who spoke English. She said it is free to walk the track which I took advantage of and I walked up to Tosa. It is a beautiful track to visit which sadly no longer hosts F1. When you cross the river to arrive at the main entrance, take a right and go under the underpass and visit the statue of Ayrton Senna. Definitely worth a visit.

If you happen to be passing through Bologna and are a Formula One fan, do take the time to visit the town of Imola. I went there on a Saturday and the main town square was bustling with the weekend market and the cafes were overflowing with people. All in all, just as I expected an Italian town to be.

The track itself is about 2.5 km from the train station, so it is a fairly decent walk. Fortunately, most of the path is very well covered with trees, so it doesn't get too hot till you reach the track. The circuit was inaccessible on the day I went, but as most people go there to visit Senna's memorial which is inside the Acqua Minerale park within the track grounds, it doesn't really matter. When you turn right from the main road on reaching the track (near the pit building), there are signs clearly indicating which way to go to reach the memorial.

There isn't a lot to see apart from this, but it is worth visiting as a pilgrimage.

Still host some races and we got to see a sport bike race. Imola was great and the track is walking distance to the city's core. Great city to visit. Speaking italian will be a huge asset there.

My wife and I took the tour of the race track. I'm an F1 fan, while my wife is more of a casual observer. We both enjoyed the tour immensely.

The tour guide, Elisa, was excellent. Knowledgable and friendly, she gave us plenty of time to explore the interesting parts of the track as well as explaining everything very well. The tour was supposed to last 90 minutes, but ended up lasting nearly 2 hours. We would have happily stayed even longer!

The tour involves two laps of the track, stopping at the points of interest such as the Tamburello corner, the monuments to Senna and Villeneuve, and the smaller commemoration area for Roland Ratzenberger. We also got to see inside the control room, walked up to the podium, and finished off at the top of the observation tower.

If you have the opportunity, try and book a tour when there's an event on. There were some race cars doing laps when we arrived. Since we were early, we went to the on-site cafe and, once the cars had finished, all the drivers and support crew came in for their lunch. During the pause in the racing, we had our laps of the track and, by the time we got to the observation tower, the cars were racing again so we got to watch them from the excellent viewing spot.

Went to Imola to go to an open day but it had been moved to the day before we were due to fly out for our stay so it was a little disappointing. However as we were staying at the Hotel Rivazza the view was awesome. The Ayrton Senna exhibition was very moving and the statue in the Aqua Minerale Park was such a wonderful thing to experience.

Imola will always be associated with the death of Ayrton Senna in 1994. Gilles Villeneuve crashed heavily in 1980. Both are commemorated in memorials freely accessible from the park / inside the circuit.

I suggest visit the circuit mini-museum / shop first. They will give you a free map showing the locations / routes to those memorials; also the route to see the sweeping Aqua Minerale corner (see my photos).

The main circuit museum was closed for refurbishment in November 2018. Suggest check the website to see i) when it will reopen and ii) when the circuits is open to walk the track (apparently several times each you).

If in the area, do go!
