A gorgeous town that we have raved about to anyone who will listen since our first trip in 2014. We loved it so much that we recently stayed there again (June 2023). Unfortunately our experience was not as good as the first time and, whilst I would recommend a visit, I would not recommend staying here at the moment. Currently the road from Ravello to Amalfi is closed due to large buses due to a tragic accident that occurred earlier in the year. The town has put on a small shuttle bus which is able to use the direct route (and takes 15 to 20 mins) but it seats only around 25 passengers and there are always double of triple this number of people wanting to get on the bus (and it only runs about 5 times a day). Once it did not turn up at all as the bus has broken down. If you aren't able to get on the small bus (in 4 days we were only able to get on it once) you have to take the large bus which has to drive the long way around and takes between 1hour to 1 hour & 40 mins. This means it is very difficult to plan your day as you never know what time you will get to Amalfi to catch connecting buses or ferries and you never know what time you'll get back to Ravello for dinner reservations. It also means that you spend 2 - 3 hours a day just getting up and back to Amalfi! There is more to the story but suffice to say that the bus situation was a nightmare and I would strongly recommend not staying in Ravello until the road is fixed!

The whole of Ravello is breathtaking, and the gardens of Villa Ruffolo are no exception. A must-see if you're in the area. Even if you are not, Ravello is definitely worth an excursion! From Villa Cimbrone, the view is. just. unbelievable. Do not walk, run there!

Very nice town, great to walk around, helpful and friendly locals. We have walked from Amalfi, passing by Atrani. We loved the views and the cozy environment. Also, nice places to grab a bite and relax after the walk

There's no doubt it's a beautiful place, but if you have limited time in Ravello then I think Villa Cimbrone is a better bet.

If you want the feeling of walking into an Italian fairytale then you must visit Ravello.
Located 7km from the hustle and bustle of Amalfi, Ravello is a much quieter town set in the mountains.
Known as the City of Music, there are concerts that are frequently conducted here under a backdrop of Roman ruins and terraced citrus gardens.
Getting here can be tricky for those inexperienced with driving on Italian roads. I would highly recommend catching the SITA bus for €2.70 or the open top tour bus for €5 from the Amalfi bus stop near the main piazza and harbour.
The drivers are excellent at navigating the winding mountain roads and you won't have to worry about parking. Bus services are frequent enough half hourly until about 10pm when they stop.
The highlight of Ravello would have to be Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone Gardens for the scenery. These gardens are absolutely stunning and will make you feel as if you have been transported to a palace in ancient Rome.
The food and drinks around the area attract tourist prices but the quality of food was excellent.
Overall Ravello proved to be an unforgettable experience and I would highly recommend anyone touring the Amalfi area to stop off for at least a few hours at this paradise hidden in the mountains.

We visited Ravello on our last day in Amalfi. The road leading up to the town is very winding and narrow. At one point there is not enough room for two cars and they stop traffic and take turns. The town is quite walkable with a main square and many small streets. We noticed that trucks can't make it through a lot of these streets, so the merchandise is transferred to smaller carts. The steps on one half of a street has been filled in to make a ramp to accommodate these carts and wheelchairs. They are also roughened and graded so they don't become slippery when wet. This is just one of the ways ancient small towns like Ravello have changed to keep up with the times.
There is a huge music festival here every summer that draws artists from all over the world. We were not able to stay for any performances but we noticed that Ravello has a very active arts council. This is a very beautiful little town and I would highly recommend a visit.

If you are going to the Amalfi coast you have to drive. These fantastic, but narrow roads through Positano, Sorrento and up to Ravello. Breathtaking view and maybe some of the most beautiful places in Italy

This was on my Italian Bucket list and it did not disappoint. The views are spectacular and the grounds of the villas wonderful. To top it off we had a great meal in an unassuming restaurant slightly off the central plaza. A trip to Ravello should be high on everyone's list.

Is there a bus from Positano to Ravello? What is the cost and how long does it take to get there? What would you suggest we see and where would be a good place for lunch?

SITA buses run from Positano to Amalfi, where you will have to change to buses to get to Ravello. There is a great information website at Positano (period) com. Ravello has beautiful views. I've been to Italy dozens of times and never been treated as snotty as we were in Ravello. So, my advice is don't plan to spend too much time there. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and view at Hotel Villa Maria, they have their own gardens next door. But, absolutely make a reservation.

Hallo , wir planen 1 Woche Amalfiküste Capri usw. Hattet Ihr einen Mietwagen oder geht das alles auch mit Bus ? Capri mit Schiff ist klar, aber wie sind sonst die Busverbindungen ?

Sorry for my late reply!
But if it's still usefull; we did not rent a car, we did everything by boat. The boat connexions are very easy and frequent (during summer anyway), from/ to Amalfi, Sorrento, Positano, Capri, Ischia and back to Napoli for the flight. We did not experience any problem.
The only bus we took was from Ravello to Amalfi and that was very easy too.

Is it practical to drive up? Is there parking?

You can make the drive, but as was stated, it is a windy road and you park outside the little town. It is a very short walk to the main area and there are such lovely grounds and buildings and views that you should not miss it. I stayed in Ravello for four nights and loved it.
