Spending time in the medieval village literally teleports you into a different time. Beautiful shops and restaurants, passionate actors. The food was tasty and authentic as well! The tournament itself was exciting and fun to watch. When we were there a heavy rain started in the middle of the performance, but the team just kept going - overall a great experience!
The place is easy to reach from Munich. Great choice to spend an afternoon!

The festival is outstanding, hence why we went two years running, and will be going there again. We love to chose the day when Corvus corax are playing on the stage as they are a wonderful band. The whole day is amazing

We went here this July and had a fantastic time. We had no idea how big the medieval festival village was and wish we had come a little earlier to see the parade, watch the music groups, acrobats, and enjoy the many food and drink options. There is really lots to see.
The tournament itself was fun to watch, too. Even our 4-year old boy who usually can't sit still for anything, sat down nicely for the entire length of the show. The equestrians were amazing. We were really impressed. What a great show!
Highly recommend experiencing it all.
There is an app (I think only for mac products) that you can download that has maps and schedules. It was very helpful.

We enjoyed a great afternoon into the night, eating & drinking fantastic Bavarian medieval style foods (spit roast oxen / pigs, various dumplings, drinking copious amounts of mead & dark beer. Everything is housed in either Knight's camps/tents or old-style huts, kitchens & Inns. Most people dressed up in medieval clothes. Different traders & artisans made and sold items. We loved every minute of it. The evening show in the arena was spectacular and riveting. If it wasn't so far from Tasmania, we would attend Kaltenberg Ritterspiele every year!

Home of the Famous Kaltenberg Jousting Tournament in the middle of July, the restaurant is located in the Castle of Luitpold of Bavaria, decendant of Ludwig II of Bavaria, which also houses the Brewery of the König Ludwig Dunkel (King Ludwig Dark beer).
The restaurant is relatively small and reservation is recommended.
Please note that I reviewed the restaurant and not the Jousting Tournament, which is only available 3 weekends in July, while the restaurant is open throughout the whole year.

The medieval festival at the castle Kaltenberg is highly to recommend. You won't get bored at any time. The food is very delicious and a lot of small stores to buy nice souveniers.
