As we are moving to the Mid-North Coast we wanted to check out the area from Grassy Head through to the Pacific Hwy. The 4WD and the off-road GPS handled the roads no problem.
The lookout views to the South, really worth the drive.

A ''highlight'' of the area
mar 2017.
Getting to this drive up Yarrahappinni Mountain can be done a few ways. A good one is off the Scotts Head road, about half way. Turn off to enjoy some off road type driving over babbling brooks, sub tropical rainforest and a picnic area that is like a green cathedral. You will probably meet the resident goannas. Continue up the mountain for great views all around the region. It's worth the effort and a very enjoyable picnic option.

Worth the trip

Be prepared and take the right road up from the Highway, worth it but a very narrow road. I took my i30 and it managed it well. no need for a 4 wheel drive. The view from the lookout was great. Worth taking a picnic if you wanted or a cuppa. Lovely and peacful

Ancient rainforest! Spectacular!

We have a 4 wheel drive and traversed the road up the mountain easily. It is achievable with a regular car, but not for the faint-hearted. What a wonderful eco-system. Not to be missed!

It's an ok way to spend a leisurely hour

The Yarrahapinni Lookout is somewhat marred by all the mobile phone towers and repeater stations installed on the summit. Of course that's because it's the highest point around and as such offers some decent panoramic views. If you're just out for a leisurely exploratory drive take some food and drink so you can enjoys a pleasant rest in "The Pines" picnic area whilst driving around the rainforest and pine forested areas you'll find around the base of Mount Yarrahapinni.

Great view, rain forest drive saw fruit doves
feb 2016. • Prijatelji
This is great drive through thr rain forest, across tricking streams. There is a rest area on the way with toilets, BBQ a big goanna and seating. It was neat and tidy. There is an impressive stand of flooded gums there as well. The straight white trunks make a dramatic photo. We saw fruit doves, some of the trees were labeled which lets you know what you are looking at. The road is gravel our soft roader ix35 handled it no problems but clearance may be an issue on smaller cars. The road is narrow in places and you need to keep a watch for oncoming traffic. We went in at Way Way up to the lookout, then back tracked a bit and came out on the grassy head Stuart point road. It is all sign posted. The lookout is a great view. We used an iPad & google maps to orintate ourselves, the map was a bit confusing. Can see to SW rocks and beyond looking south and where the new highway is being built. We had clear day. There are toilets at the lookout and a bit of mowed area, not an extensive park. It is worth the drive.

Spectacular view on a clear day
jan 2016. • Parovi
The view of the surrounding countryside and all the way to the coast is fabulous. It's worth the slow drive up on dirt and gravel to get to the top. The National Park used to be a State Forest. There is a picnic spot along the way. It's lovely driving through the forest and crossing the streams. All creek crossings are concrete causeways so no trouble for 2 or 4WD vehicles. Go on a sunny clear day to make the most of it.
