Nice place for to stop and sit or eat, especially on a cold or rainy day. Lots of plants, natural light. It's in between the National Portrait Gallery and the American Art Museum - recommend even without visiting those (but they're both very nice as well!) Good for families.

This is a good place to visit as it connects two well-known Washington, DC attractions: the Smithsonian American Art Museum or SAAM and the National Portrait Gallery. Entrance to them is FREE! One can spend an entire day just visiting these attractions.

During my visit on August 4, 2019, they were having a 2-day Event for Computer Games. It was crowded, with young and old folks playing the FREE computer games. Periodically, they have other events going on here.

Recommended to visit this Courtyard and its 2 related attractions!

Kogod Courtyard is believed to be the indoor enclosed Courtyard. It was an open door courtyard between the two buildings of the American Art Museum. It was renovated and enclosed in 2007. In general museum goers can take a break and relax in the courtyard with free WiFi and foods and drinks services. It is also used for special exhibits and activities. Currently, a showcase of orchids around the world is on display.

We came for the orchid show, in the most peaceful spot in DC--on loan from the National Botanical Gardens, near the Capital. Highly recommend going before it closes 4/28.

The space is a beautiful combination of lighting and architecture! Loads of seating and a little cafe for a small bite and refreshments. There are pretty natural plantings throughout for a bit of nature in the museum. If you get a chance to stop in for their orchid show in Feb/March you will be impressed with the variety. The Kogod Courtyard is free to visit as well as the adjoining museums. D.C. has bar none the most to see and enjoy for your budget!

After a few days of attending a conference, we wanted to do some sightseeing and stopped into The National Portrait Gallery. We decided to try the cafe here and stumbled into this beautiful spot. Really nice, bright and peaceful. Bring your own food our buy some at the cafe.

Large, architechturally interesting spot between National Portrait Gallery and SAMA where you can sit and eat what you bought from the small, but exhorbitant NPG cafe. No outlets for phone charging. This really isn't worth a special trip to see. Lots of families having snacks but mot noisy at all.

There are several separate entries for the same location, American art, portrait gallery, and Reynolds building probably cover it there is no reason to have this separate entry. That being said this is not worth going out of your way for its a place to sit or have lunch while visiting the two art museums contained in the building. It's a very nice enclosed courtyard.

Washington D.C. can be one of the most frenetic places in the U.S., and visiting or living there can cause considerable stress and anxiety. When we visited D.C. recently, we had the opportunity to visit the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard, located in the absolute middle of the Smithsonian American Art Museum at F St. and 8th St. NW, near Chinatown. This 28,000 square foot courtyard was designed by world class architects and is covered by an elegant wavy glass canopy, making it suitable to visit throughout the year. There is a rather pricey cafe there, but visitors can bring in their own food. We went to a nearby deli and brought in our own sandwiches, and had lunch in the most serene setting in Washington D.C.! (There is a sign posted on the outside of the doors of the Smithsonian American Art Museum that one cannot bring food or drink into the building, but we asked the security guard if we could bring our sandwiches and drinks into the Kogod Courtyard, and he replied, "Of course!")
