Island in the Lake
jan 2020.
Temple in the middle of the lake in the Old Quarter. There is a giant mummified turtle. There are free public bathrooms, however, there are two toilets without privacy partitions and both must be used at the same time.

The little Temple of the Jade Mountain ...
jan 2020.
At the Northeastern part of "Hoàn Kiêm" (the "Lake of the Restored Sword") and after crossing a beautiful vermillion painted bridge ("Thê Hûc" - the "Welcoming Morning Sunlight Bridge"), you will find the "Jade" islet. Right there, on a small hill, stands "Ngoc Son" (the "Temple of the Jade Mountain"), dedicated to Confucian and Taoist philosophers and to Vietnam's national hero, Tràn Hung Dao. The temple was built between the 18th and 19th centuries and is one of the most visited and revered ones in Vietnam, combining both ancestors' worship and Buddhist practices. So, whenever around Hanoi's "Old Quarter", do not miss "Ngoc Son". Opens daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Enjoy!

Beautiful, peaceful & interesting history of this sacred place! A great place to visit and scope out in old quarter area; it’s cheap, doesn’t take too much time at all but is relaxing. Located on beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake; tons of things to do in this area! Follow @travelingypsey on Instagram & GoogleMaps!!!

Temple in Hoan Kiem Lake
nov 2019.
This is the Temple of the Jade Mountain and is located on the Jade Islet in Hoan Kiem Lake. This temple is small, but it's unique location makes it a must visit in Hanoi.

Stunning all lite up in the evening. Must see!
dec 2019.
We arrived here later one afternoon around 4:15pm and spent about an hour. It cost 30,000VND (about $1.75CAD). They close at 5pm but didn't r rush people out but didn't let anyone else in.This has the most picturesque bridge. There was so many people here when we got there and everyone wanted the same picture on the stunning red bridge. It is located in the Old Quarters and is a small island on Hoam Siem Lake. There was so many people all sitting around like bumps on a log. it was really weird. Then all of a sudden they lite the whole place up. So It all started to make sense that is what most of the people were there for that. So it might be better to go at a different time of day. Who knows maybe it’s nuts all day. The temple was very nice with fresh flowers every where. The temple was built in the 18th century on the Island in the middle of the Lake of the Returned Sword. Legend has it the emperor was given a magical sword which helped him defeat the Chinese Ming Dynasty. When he defeated the Dynasty the Golden Turtle returned to the lake. There are endangered large soft-shell turtles still swimming in the lake. Lots of locals were there to make their offerings. The grounds and temple are well maintained. It has a beautiful view over the lake.

Beauty in simplicity - visit in the morning
dec 2019.
If you want a more authentic experience at this temple, visit right at opening. Locals come here to make their offerings before continuing their work day, so the morning is when you will witness people releasing birds to the sky, of bags of eels to the lake. You will see piles of incense smoking at every alter, and offering jar in between. You will see the hearth at the back smoldering with the papers of so many students, or symbolic money, or other papers. You will also witness the opening of the temple, the gardeners watering the simple-yet-beautiful gardens surrounding the small island complex. It's a different place than the mid-afternoon tourist destination. I also recommend walking by in the evening, to see the island, and its neighboring red bridge, glowing in the night and reflecting magically on the surface of the water. Quite the sight.

Picturesque temple and grounds, important history
mar 2020.
Sitting on a lakeside bench away from the noise of the traffic, seeing people cross the lovely red bridge to the temple, how could we not go? I think this temple is more for tourists now, as many westerners in shorts and skimpy tops were admitted. Still, it is worth seeing. The bodhi trees, the miniature rock gardens and the colorful murals are photo-worthy. Poor endangered turtles - long gone from their now polluted lake home. Worth noting: very clean Western style toilets.

The lake temple
dec 2019. • Parovi
The Temple of the Jade Mountain, as it is known in English, is on an island at the northern end of Hoan Kiem lake. The temple is dedicated to Confucius and Grand Prince Hung Dao - a celebrated general who repelled multiple invasions by the Mongols under Kublai Khan. The temple complex is small but deeply venerated. For tourists, the highlight is the red coloured pedestrian bridge to the island. It is one of the most popular selfie and photography spots.
