One of the Oldest and Largest TEMPLES in Mombasa.
The atmosphere is sublime, serene and has very good positive vibrations. Gardens are small and well kept with water features and fishes and purple lotus in bloom most of the year. The main deity is the Shiva signified by a Linga which is in the inner sanctum of the Temple and one needs to sit here for a few minutes either near the sanctum, or in the environs of the temple and Peace is found - time to introspect . There is an alter specially made for the 9 planets whose vibrations govern our magnetic fields in our auras, along with a panel of the 7 great saints who left the lineage of learning of the ancient culture, arts, sciences etc....

The rumours are true. Shiva sleeps between noon and 4:00 pm. However, when he is awake, the reception will be lovely and you will get to have a nice stroll though a little slice of peace in the heart of Mombasa madness. Youay even have a tete a tete with one of the religious leaders if you are my lucky...

Historic place. Shiv temple in the cave. It is maintained by the locals. A gazebo is there to rest and have picnics.

This was thé disappointment of Mombasa.
Just a big hall with nothing much to see and VERY rude people. We were there around 13h30 and first needed to wait until 16h to go in because " our God is sleeping ". Say what ?! After a few minutes one of the cleaners let us in when the bullies left. After 5 minutes we had seen the place. Biggest disappointment of Mombasa.

This is supposed to be the biggest temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Africa. Having read about this in Lonely Planet, I managed to get a day off to visit the place with an African friend(!) The temple was built by the rich Gujarati settlers and essentially is an architectural marvel with plenty of ornate paintings and attractive sculptures. The temple follows Gujarati traditions of worship and liturgy. A must visit in Mombasa as an attraction. Located at the point where the Old Town meets the New Town, one can club the visit with a visit to the attractions in the Old Town with stress on a must visit Spice Market.

Lord Shiva Temple is a Hindu temple in the center of Mombasa city, located on Nkruma Road. It is a serene place for meditation and idol worship. It is about 600 meter from Fort Jesus on Nkruma Road in front of Kaunda Ave on the opposite side of Mombasa Memorial Cathedral. The building of Lord Shiva Temple is topped with a beautiful gold spire. Its compound has an interesting sculpture garden.

It is a quiet but also a run-down place! The entrance is a bit hidden. In general without any entrance fee.
