"Divine & Beautiful"
okt 2019.
Considered one of the most important monastery belonging to the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism, Pemayangtse monastery said to be founded around 1647-48 AD and established fully as a monastery in the year 1705 AD is about a couple of kilometres from Pelling Town. Situated at the hill top about 2100 mtrs overlooking the surroundings areas of Pelling and other towns and villages also offers the majestic view of Mt. Khangchendzonga and its adjacent peaks. The other important factor of the monastery is about its enrollment of the monks wherein one should be from the pure Tibetan lineage to get enrolled and the head monk of the monastery was reserved the honor of crowning the Chogyals (King of Sikkim) during the time of Monarchy rules.
The " Sandhokpalri" or Guru Rimpoche's heavenly abode which is a beautiful wooden masterpiece is one of the main attraction of the monastery.
We, like most nature and adventure seekers preferred to take a walk from Pelling instead of driving a car. The walk in itself is enjoying and the road through tall Pine trees and many other trees all along the way is something i could say a good experience. 30-40 minutes walk will reach one to the top of the hill where the monastery is situated and tiredness goes away as soon as you reach to the main gate (my personal feeling)
The monastery is truly amazing in terms of its architectures and paintings and some of the rare statues of different deity's of the monastery and the region.
Its already a divine blessing to be there....!!!

Important and stunning.......................
nov 2019.
This is a very important and large monastery (built 1705) with an active community of monks. If you are lucky you will be able to hear them chanting their daily prayers as you wonder at the beautiful prayer hall. However, what makes this monastery a 'must visit' place is on the top (third) floor. The staircase up gives no hint of what you will find but you cannot help be amazed at the huge and very intricate carved piece on display when you get there. This is believed to be the work of one monk and depicts the heavenly sphere in all its stages. It is simply incredible and utterly beautiful. .

One can reach the monastery by a steep curvy road. Before you plan too visit make sure you are fully clad and decently clothed. (They do not entertain men with shorts or women with revealing clothing).
Enter into the multiple floors each for prayer, museum and a "gateway to heaven". The gateway to heaven is so superbly crafted with minutest carvings that it is difficult to take your eyes off it.

One of the monastery we visited during our visit to Sikkim. The collection of artifacts they have is amazing. We also heard the monks doing their evening prayers, which was so soothing.

Pemayantsze Monastery was founded at the end of the 17th century.
The monastery is decorated with impressive paintings on Buddhist themes and statues of Buddhist deities.
In former times, the main lama of the monastery held the ceremony of anointing the kingdom of Chogyalov, the rulers of Sikkim.
One of the main attractions of the monastery is located seven-tier wooden sculpture, representing the heavenly palace of Padmasambhava and its inhabitants. Since the old structure was badly damaged as a result of unsuccessful repairs in the 60s of the 20th century, the heavenly palace was carved out again.
This is truly an amazing work of art!
A visit to the monastery in the early morning hours guarantees absolute immersion in an atmosphere of calm, peace and meditation.
Awesome place!

VERY INTERESTING MONASTERY - MUST VISIT !!
dec 2017.
Pemayangtse Monastery is hosed in a building that has three floors and is situated on a small hill. We initially just looked around the first floor of the monastery thinking the other two floors are probably residential areas for the monks. However, we were told by one of the senior monks that the two floors above had interesting information , paintings art works regarding Buddhist spiritual thinking. Many ancient painting and "Thankas" and other art are very interesting and intriguing. Many paints of the lotus born Buddha and his stories are displayed here. Highly recommend a visit here and do not miss the going right up to the top floor to see a surprise.
