Essaouuira has a vibrant atr scene, and this excellent gallery showcases the best of the Gnaou culture's artists. It is a large airy space with a hands-off aporach by the staff, leaving you to browse at your own pace. They are very helpful if needed. There is absolutely no pressure to buy anything. A great selection of paintings, scultpures and sme highly decorated pieces of furniture, all in a distinct colurful abstract or semi abstract style. Some books and exhibition catalogues for sale, and one or two other topical books. Free entry.

I loved it, my partner hated it. It's not a gallery for all tastes, that is for sure, but for those who enjoy fauvism, folk art and outsider art it's one of the few galleries that hosts this kind of work.

It holds the type of art you instantly find compelling, curious or strange and full of colour. There is a lot of folk art and some it it is ingenious, wild, imaginative or just adorable nonsense that I came out feeling creatively fulfilled.

It's free to enter and not out of the way at all so if you're outside do go in. At the very least it'll give you something to talk about if you hated it.

As most of the muslim see human imaging in art as haram, do not expect high end art in the gallery..You'll find strange pictureswhich refer to Pollock, art brut, Cobra and most of it looks like western outsider art. the prices of the wannabe-art works vary from pricy to fairly expensive and the works are-hm- not worth it

On November 29th, I posted the following review: "We purchased a modest work on November 1, 2019. The Bill of sale provided for DHL shipping and we were told we would receive tracking information in a few days. It did not come and after the third request, we were advised by email that DHL was too expensive and another method would be used and tracking would be forwarded. Silence from then on. Now, on November 29th, with no communication, I have, today, disputed the credit card charge. Fortunately, we did not pay cash or wire funds."

Then, on December 6th, the painting arrived! It had been wrapped in brown paper with no padding and the frame was damaged. It had taken a circuitous route from Morocco to Paris to Los Angeles to Salt Lake City and, ultimately, to me. At no time was I provided tracking info or any follow-up from the gallery. So, I guess the story has a semi-happy ending and the painting will be OK after I replace the frame. I'll withdraw my credit card dispute but, be warned, if you consider shipping from this gallery.

Very unique pieces. Lots of color. Many large pieces that are impassible to take home. Loved the Camel Bar!

Just looking but what a lot to see there is a great imergin artist colony. I bought a painting but kept it to a size I could carry. It takes a lot for me to want a painting as I am an artist. You will love to look and enjoy.

The gallery is one of the focal points of art in Essaouira. Some say the art scene all started here. I doubt it. But the quality of the work on show is amazing. Very little is what might be called 'traditional Moroccan'. Naive, expressionist and sometimes just crazy. You gotta go there.

local artists, look at the large piece behind curator's desk - used sawdust - it was not high art but there were interesting pieces mixed in with some undeserving ones
