The bookstore is located in a shopping mall, just above the UNICLO shop. It is about 15 mn walk from the Jiangling road metro station (江陵路) on line 1 (South of the river). At first sight, the design seems very impressive, especially in the context of this unappealing mall. I had originally planned to enjoy the place and study/read books in the coffee shop . But I did not like so much the atmosphere. The space was narrow, with poor natural light. But it is certainly worthwhile to visit if you are living in Hangzhou. I suspect that it is some copy a library or bookstore in Shanghai but I am not sure.

This a nice book store to chill with a coffee and a book. I'd have given it 4 stars but the English section is small and certainly didn't satisfy my curiosity

I went to the Zhongshuge in early Nov before I go to the airport. This is definitely an awesome place for you to spend half day before departure.
First, the decorations and design is wonderful. Some say that mirror and books are used to reflect one's true self. And the bookstore uses a lot of these tools to create a reflecting world.
Second, the categories of book are wide. And there're a lot of seating areas for you to stay and read.
Third, they offer free postage for domestic post if you buy postcards there. And there's a small cafe which is good for getting a rest and refill your body and soul.
Highly recommend this place to you if you want to find something different in Hangzhou.

I found the location a bit odd as I expected this bookstore to be on the ground floor however tenants in the building gladly showed me the location which was on the 2nd floor as you may or may not know that ground floor in China is actually the first floor.
It was like walking into a dream, staff were super-friendly, the place was clean, the vibe was tangible, the place was packed and the service at the coffee-bar was friendly and quick although I found the pricing steep then again good coffee generally is in China.
People were coming and going all the time.
Coffee Bar staff cleaned all the time and it was hard to secure a table.
A friendly assistant showed me the English book selection which was small and limited to maybe 10 shelves one meter wide. The English movies were of a Classic nature. The prices for the English books were unbelievably low.
It was a bit noisier than most book stores I have visited but the place was full of adults and quite a few children.
The use of mirrors as part of the decor created a larger than normal surrounding.
The OVAL ROOM was spectacular with its stepped seating area and was occupied by adults and children for the almost entire three hours I sat and took in the atmosphere.
Check-out / paying was super easy as my selection which I placed where I had my coffee was taken to the check-out counter by the coffee-bar staff and the cash-slip was brought to me for payment.
