Excellent ... a Must See
okt 2020.
We did not know what to expect. My wife thought it was going to be going into a mine and didn't want to go, but I talked her into going and she loved it. She has done more research and we just got the DVD to watch the movie. Museum staff are VERY informative, esp. Bill who owns the farm the rescue took place on. We learned a lot listening to his ~one hour DVD and story. Not much to see outdoors but the museum will give you a complete understanding of how the accident happened and the events that unfolded over the next couple of days to get the miners out. It was amazing and a miracle. May not hold the interest of small children.

History we shouldn't forget
sep 2020.
We got there later in the afternoon but the docent was very kind and offered all sorts of extra information. She took her time with us and answered all our questions.
We had just missed one of the 9. She said they come through quite often.
There were a lot of interactive things where you could hear and see the original 9 in the days after as well as some of the rescue footage.
What dedication this community has to keep this site open to the public.
The outdoor space is easily reached and gives you further insight into the events that took place.
We combined with a trip to Flight 93 Visitor Center. Easily done.
Then we went to dinner at Gourmet Buffet in Somerset Commons. Made for a good day.

Lots of coal mining history.
okt 2020.
The small museum is very interesting as well as the grounds were the rescue took place. However..... the tour guide gives a detailed 1 hour story of events which is interesting but she kind of lost me when she started to add religion to the story and adds in a bit of her own story that has nothing to do with the rescue.

Great historical site to visit

Very interesting and exciting site to visit and learn about the 9 for 9 miners rescue. Make sure you have some time so you can hear the whole story as told by Vicki who does an excellent job.

Worthwhile
jul 2020.
If you grew up when this happened, it's a cool reminder of what can happen when people put their minds together and work hard! Lots of parking, short walk to take a look around.

Very small but worth it
jun 2020. • Samostalno
I can't review The visitor Center as it was closed both times. But I visited the site itself. It's a very small site that can probably be seen in about 30 minutes. the ventilating pipe they used to give air to the men and the shaft they used to rescue them are still here. It's nice to see such an interesting part of history preserved. The spot can be easy to miss because it is either on or near a farm. There are cows right next to the site.

Surprising stop

Did not know what to expect. Museum staff are VERY into the story of the rescue (perhaps too much so at times) but learned a lot listening to them. Not much to see outdoors but the museum will give you a complete understanding of how the accident happened and the events that unfolded over the next couple of days to get the miners out. May not hold the interest of small children.

Amazing people and informative tour!
okt 2019. • Parovi
Some of the people that give the tour were there at the event themselves and/or personally knew the people involved, so its great to hear the story from their point of view.

Truly A Special And Informational Stop
sep 2019.
We had no idea what this stop would be like and we were more than impressed. Admission is $7.00 and that is for a guided tour out to see the actual areas where the mine flooded and then there is a powerpoint presentation that teaches one a lot about the mining industry, the mining accident, how 9 men were lucky enough to make it out, and the countless miracles that happened to rescue the other 9 men alive. OMG, it was truly amazing.
