Sadly, I arrived in St. Arnaud looking forward to visiting this museum, however, they were busily packing everything up to move to Western Australia. Most disappointed. I wish them well in their new place, but alas, more closures for a small country town in Victoria which has now lost another attraction.

The only Bible Museum in Australia

My wife and I visited this place with our two young children.
There really is something for everyone here and the friendly owners spared no effort in making us feel welcome and answering all our questions.
You don't need to be religious to gain an appreciation of the history of the bible, the empires and nations of bible times and the customs, habits and lifestyle of the historical figures who ensured the Bible has survived till today as the best selling book of all time.
Amazing place and well worth a visit.

A real gem of a museum

Such a wealth of knowledge to go with this huge collection of books, scriptures and other really interesting religious items. Really worth a visit as it embraces far more than the religious aspect of the bible. Amazing

Quirky and interesting

On the recommendation of the receptionist where we were staying, we visited the Bible Museum. It was quite extraordinary. The museum is run by a devoted mother and daughter (along with a butterfly collection), and was very extensive. There were bibles of all sizes and ages, including a satirical version by Spike Milligan.
You don't have to be religious to enjoy this quirky museum. The exhibits are so extensive and some are exceedingly beautiful. By the end, one also has a sense of how significant the bible has been to various people and groups throughout history. For example, one exhibit was a case of tiny bibles that were used by the soldiers during the war, as they could be kept in their pockets.

A must see.

This hidden gem is well worth the visit. There is so much to see and the curators are so knowledgable. My sons had a go at blowing on the animal horn shofars, which they returned to for a second go.
Out the back is the butterfly garden complete with many flowering plants that butterflies love-and many plants found in the Bible.

Absolutely Wonderful, Highly Recommend. Fun & Educational - Coins, Maps, Displays, Lovely Historical Books & Much More.

Located in the town of St Arnaud, Victoria The Bible Museum is family owned & operated & it is understood that the items on display are from their personal collection.

A wonderful discovery, The Bible Museum is highly recommended to persons of all ages & backgrounds. The old books & volumes are fascinating reading & seeing the style of language that was common in ancient times & olden days is great fun.

Colourful models and miniatures depict various Bible scenes and events. These are wonderfully detailed and the workmanship is very good. Various maps showcasing ancient lands and regions hang on the walls & replica's of Tear & Tithe Jars round out the displays. With some being original & some replicas a look through their collection of coins was enjoyed by my son & I.

A marvellous highlight is to see Gods Name clearly written in different versions of the Bible such as the King James Version originally printed in 1633CE [IEHOVAH] and the Geneva Bible of 1560 [Jehouah]**.

They also have on site a copy of "The Newe Teftament" Imprinted at London by Robert Barker in 1611AD which has the Tetragrammaton included in it. This is the Hebrew Name for God translated into four letters YHWH or JHVH and articulated as Yahweh or Jehovah.

Countless other historical gems can be found here and the owners have provided a perfect opportunity for us to take a fascinating step back into time and look at not only human history, but an insight into the evolution of language & writing - [** as above when there was no separate letters for V and U or W for example ].

Summary:
No set entry fee is applied however guests are welcomed to make a donation in an amount of their choice. Our visit was made up of family and friends ranging in age from around seven years of age up to adults in their forties and The Bible Museum held something of interest to us all.

We found our later that there is apparently a Butterfly House associated with The Bible Museum however we didn't know of this at the time of our visit and unfortunately can't comment.

With versions of ancient pottery, jewelled replica's, books, maps, coins and much much more a visit here should definitely be added to everyone's "to do"list. I would propose that you plan to spend at least one - two hours to fully appreciate the precious history that is stored here.

There are two museums; Bible and Butterfly museums. Run by a super friendly mother and daughter. Not just about bible, you get to learn history, religions, geography, antiques and also about butterfly. No admission charge at all and private tour by them.

The place was very nice and clean. There is beautiful butterfly garden outdoor. You will never believe this museums are run by them two only. Very hardworking people. The two cats were very friendly and cute. My 5 year old daughter loved playing with them.

Not recommended if your child is a runner due to limited space of walking. Other than that, it was awesome experience. They offer large group tours too. Located at main street. Easy excess and very convenience to park your car or by bus.

Will be back for sure! Thank you for an awesome experience.

I'm in awe of this fascinating collection of Bibles. You can feel the history of the really old, beautifully bound, gold edged collections. The owners are extremely generous to share their passion. And the Butterfly garden is just beautiful! Well worth the visit
