Fun cavern tour and interesting to learn about
jul 2019.
We were able to fit this in on our quick day trip from Pittsburg, we have visited other cave and caverns as we have traveled in the US so we always look forward to another one and to see how they are all different and or similar. This was less strict as many others as far as keeping your hands off everything and it was a bit more commercial with the light show, however we really enjoyed the tour. It was a nice hike down and up the cavern and while some say the light show is cheesy, it was also a nice way to see deep in one area and enjoy the lights and shadows. They have additional tours that are more adventurous and would be fun to do if we ever get back this way.

Bring headlights! Educational and good activity for couples or family!
dec 2018.
My wife and I did this for our anniversary last year and it was awesome. We did everything that Laurel Caverns had to offer including the putt putt through the caverns, cave exploring, and the tour. I would say that all were great and good activities for a family or for couples trying something new. I would recommend if you are caving to bring headlights, hiking boots or work boots, and clothes that you can just throw away or don't mind washing a couple of times. They do a checklist when getting groups together and will ask you to sign a waiver if you don't have proper attire. They also recommend 2 flashlights (this includes a headlight/flashlight, or two handheld flashlights). We did the mid-level caving experience so you only go so deep into the caves (I think a couple of miles). It was comfortable enough for us because you only went through some tight spaces a few times and then the rest you can pretty much squeeze through. I would NOT recommend this for people who shouldn't be physically active or do some bending and turning. This actually is a decent workout and you have to do some climbing, descending and squeezing through some rocks. I won't spoil the experience but there are some things you get to do in the cave that are pretty cool if you choose to do so. There are great photo opportunities as well! There is also a nice gift shop where you can get some cool toys for kids or yourself to remember the experience. The tour was awesome as well and much better for families since you are simply walking through and learning about the caves. If you're in the area I highly recommend doing this if you're able. It is also only about 5-10 minutes from the Summitt Inn if you're staying there.

An Educational Activity
okt 2019.
We took the Traditional Tour. It was not as difficult as they led us to believe it would be, and I have bad knees. Part of the reason is that the guide paced us very well. Also, the guide was very knowledgeable about the geology and presented it in an interesting way. She also reinforced the information we'd received earlier in the tour by pointing out recurring fault lines, type of stone etc. She also had a good grasp of the history of the caves. The temperature was in the caves was in the low 50s. I wore a jacket, but given the amount of walking and the ups and downs of the path, a sweat shirt would have been a better option. I also brought a walking stick, and while I was the only one on our tour to have one, for me it was a good decision.

Amazing, Challenging, Memorable Experience
sep 2019.
My wife and I are senior citizens who like a new adventure. We talked ourselves into taking the 2-hour "upper cave" tour on a rainy Monday afternoon. Our guide, Zach, prepared we newbies for what to expect and told us he would tailor the tour to our limitations (we were the only two on the tour.) Navigating the passageways and the climbing up and down was challenging at times and scary at times, but we always felt in good hands with Zach and intern Cicely.

In addition to his obvious love of caving, he provided us with a lot of geological facts about caves, geological history, you name it. Zach is quite personable, a good story teller and a great source for a few geology basics.

Somewhat surprised to read the negative comments about the well-designed lighting in the family tour portion of the cave. The lights were aesthetically pleasing to this occasional spelunker.

Fun way to spend an afternoon
sep 2019. • Parovi
My husband and I live nearby but haven’t been here since we were kids so we decided to revisit. Very affordable fun afternoon. I don’t recommend taking small children on the traditional tour. It’s a lot of up and down walking and some squeezing through narrow spaces, a lot for little legs and difficult/exhausting to have to carry a child the whole time. The light show was fun, we’ll most likely return with our own children when they’re a little older.

Lower caving

The experience at Laurel Caverns is amazing! I definitely recommend the upper caving tour and the lower caving tour. I have not done the family tour so I cannot comment on it.

An Amazing Experience
sep 2019.
We loved everything about our tour of the cave. Our guide was informative and welcoming. The cave itself is facinating. We went on the hour long tour and this could be easily done by families and older people. Be sure to wear shoes with good treads and bring a jacket because it was cold while in the cave. This attraction is a drivr off the main road but it was well worth it. I would highly recommend a visit!

Tacky light show took away the enjoyment!
avg 2019.
These caverns are awesome without the addition of flashing lights and piped in music. We had to ask where the natural cave began and the artificial man made cave ended, that info wasn't freely given by the guide. We as a family enjoy seeing caves, and the lights strategically placed in depths of the cave added to the visual beauty. We were surprised at the really steep paths that were slippery at times. The brochures mention the depth of the cave, but we have been in many caves before that included steps and that is what we expected. This is a STRENUOUS tour, with the steepness of the paths! We were trapped into going through a narrow passage with flashing lights, one of us had a baby strapped on her chest, trying to avoid hitting his head on the jutting rocks. That was totally unnecessary! And then at the end we were trapped on a steep slope watching a light show! Ugh. This cave is amazing without all this, and to go through slower without the added light show would have been much more enjoyable. Not recommended for older people with stability problems!

Guide was great. Caves were a bit tacky with a good amount of colorful lighting. The caves were spectacular enough in themselves without the tacky addition of awful colorful lighting.

Had a great time

Fun for the whole family. Great views from the balcony. The guides are knowledgeable and friendly. My 83 year old grandmother came as well. The last time she was in the cave was 60 years ago and loved every minute. There were some steep parts for her though.
