Really good historical centre for a small town making it more personable than other big cities. Old town areas.

Nice to see during the day and night, however night time does have better atmosphere with dining options and bars.

With Como being rather small if you are walking around you will definitely come across the historical centre.

Como tower gate. Very solid structure from the out side, much more ornate from the in side.

Worth a look when in the Piazza Vitoria area. Garibaldi statue just across the road.

The city of Como overlooks the lake on the north side of its old part. But on this north side, the far west corner is somewhat ugly, since it is occupied by a hangar for seaplanes and by the ramp for their entry into the lake.
The traveler who, having come to this corner, rejected by this ugliness, went back, would nevertheless make an unforgivable mistake. In fact, proceeding further along the lake, from here begins what in my opinion is the most beautiful stretch of the lakefront of the city: the path, only pedestrian and about 800 mts. long, which reaches the outstanding Villa Olmo.
The walk is not ancient: it was opened in 1959, crossing the gardens - or in any case the lake side - of the many villas overlooking the water. It bears the name of the mayor of Como of that time, Lino Gelpi, who strongly wanted this path, winning the opposition of many citizens (primarily of the owners of the villas).
The walk is extraordinarily beautiful and pleasant: on one side it overlooks the scenic lake, on the other it allows the view of the part facing the water of the sumptuous villas that line it. Not only it is forbidden to any motorized vehicle; but any road is far away, so that no engine noise is heard.
In short, this walk is a "not to be missed".
