- TommoMelbourne, Australia50,436 contributionsComo Cathedral also known as Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta and is a Catholic cathedral, and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
It is known as the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy.
Construction began in 1396 , and did not finish until 1770.
Its a rather pretty churh with lovely sculptures on the facade and quite symetrical.Written February 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We didn't get to go inside the Villa as it was closed but what we saw of the grounds was enough to warrant a visit.
Obviously not worth coming to Como just to visit here but as part of a larger tour it should be part of your itinary.Written October 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Lombard Romanesque church dates back to 1120.
The facade was rebuilt and restored in 1914 and the bell tower due to tilting was demolished in 1905 and replaced.
This church in Como is historic and worth visiting.Written February 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Nice to see during the day and night, however night time does have better atmosphere with dining options and bars.
With Como being rather small if you are walking around you will definitely come across the historical centre.Written August 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are lovely views across the lake, it's spacious & airy & a lovely place to spend some time before making your way to the the ferry terminal to see one of the other beautiful towns along the shores of beautiful Lake Como.Written July 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gm265265Rehovot, Israel24 contributionsWe went to see the opera the Barber of Sivilia on the Teatro Social Como.
It was lovely.
I advise you to check in the internet for shows in the theater. I tried to book online but I had problems with it.
We checked on the day of the show and there were tickets available (a private box).Written October 1, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It stands in the lake near the harbour and the ferry terminal. - Tim M6 contributionsGreat Castle, quite some time to walk up there. Unfortunately, the motorway is right next to it. Therefore 4 stars.Written October 31, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- John GBethlehem, PA91 contributionsIf you want amazing views of the entire lake and to be as high as the clouds then this the hike for anyone near Lezzeno or Bellagio. We drove through Bellagio to the Rifugio Martina where we parked outside of the entry way that was marked with the sign “10 minutes by foot,” loosely translated from Italian to English by me. You will walk up to the rifugio, which you should definitely have lunch at after you finish hiking, and continue along the path up the mountain. It’s about 2 hours round trip and, at times, fairly steep.Written September 6, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brun066Florence, Italy12,580 contributionsThe city of Como overlooks the lake on the north side of its old part. But on this north side, the far west corner is somewhat ugly, since it is occupied by a hangar for seaplanes and by the ramp for their entry into the lake.
The traveler who, having come to this corner, rejected by this ugliness, went back, would nevertheless make an unforgivable mistake. In fact, proceeding further along the lake, from here begins what in my opinion is the most beautiful stretch of the lakefront of the city: the path, only pedestrian and about 800 mts. long, which reaches the outstanding Villa Olmo.
The walk is not ancient: it was opened in 1959, crossing the gardens - or in any case the lake side - of the many villas overlooking the water. It bears the name of the mayor of Como of that time, Lino Gelpi, who strongly wanted this path, winning the opposition of many citizens (primarily of the owners of the villas).
The walk is extraordinarily beautiful and pleasant: on one side it overlooks the scenic lake, on the other it allows the view of the part facing the water of the sumptuous villas that line it. Not only it is forbidden to any motorized vehicle; but any road is far away, so that no engine noise is heard.
In short, this walk is a "not to be missed".Written January 26, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lisa OMalleyDallas, TX2 contributionsWe had a fabulous time! We highly recommend Capitan Drake's! The choices of wines were fantastic, and the cheeses and meats were so delicious. It was an intimate gathering of just our family. We were treated so warmly and kindly. We needed a little help getting to our next destination, and they were so sweet. Very charming venue.Written September 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
