What travelers are saying
- Sarah L4 contributionsWe saw this place on social media before our holiday to Venice and decided we would add this to our list of places to visit. It did not disappoint. It was a little crowded, and there was a queue that you had to follow; which made it a little difficult when trying to look at the books and postcards on offer to buy but overall very different and many books and if your like us and a avid bookworm. Do not miss this place.Written March 10, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- IlyaNJMarlboro, NJ1,010 contributionsAlthough less exuberant than Scuola Grande San Rocco, San Giovanni Evangelista has more defined spaces and is well worth checking out.Written July 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - IlyaNJMarlboro, NJ1,010 contributionsThis is among lesser-visited museums in Venice, with several expositions including a pretty good art collection, across a number of interesting spaces.Written July 6, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - telemarkJaneLake Telemark, NJ228 contributionsFor someone in the Medical profession, this is a must-see! The history of the art and craft of the profession is laid out beautifully. The room with thousands of medical books, instruments for the profession (surgical/medical, dental) is heart stopping (so I guess a hospital is the best place to be for that! LOL). I needed a chin strap to keep my mouth closed, just looking at the art, the ceiling, the place as a whole. Be sure to go to the Museum's Specimen and Pharmacy, just next door, to complete your visit.Written March 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ArchilingueCambridge, UK68 contributionsI’ve dreamt about visiting this masterpiece by Sansovino ever since I was an A Level student... We spent ages looking for the entrance and even asked a number of locals, policemen etc. Eventually we discovered that the Biblioteca Marciana, the Museo Archeologico and the Museo Correr all share the same entrance at the western end of Piazza San Marco. That’s a nuisance if you’ve bought the multi-museum ticket and haven’t got time to visit three museums all at once, because it doesn’t allow multiple entries!
Sadly we were unable to enjoy the grandeur of the interior since there was a major exhibition on in the Biblioteca, which ‘got in the way’. The other two museums were full of fascinating exhibits and are well worth a visit, but only if you’ve got plenty of time.Written March 22, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Maryanne SHamilton, Canada401 contributionsThe Monumental Halls of the Library illustrate the beauty of the ancient Library of St. Mark, made largely by Jacopo Sansovino and completed by Vincenzo Scamozzi, with an extraordinary staircase and a very rich decoration.Written March 25, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HollyBrooklyn, NY10 contributionsFantastic bookstore in a wonderful area. They've got a well-curated, thoughtful selection. Bonus was a small English section, largely tailored toward social change and Venice info. So glad we popped by!Written April 15, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- petermack2011Bungay, UK394 contributionsLocated next to the Saint Maria dei Frari (church) in Campo San Frari this is another Venice freebie. A beautiful courtyard is accessible. The area of San Polo is quiet and off the main tourist path so it is generally quieter and more relaxed. Access into the small museum was free so another bonus to those visiting Venice on a budget.Written October 3, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gregory WMankato, MN3,383 contributionsCarlo Osvaldo Goldoni was an Italian playwright from Venice (February 1707 – February 6, 1793). His works include some of Italy's most famous and best-loved plays. Audiences have admired the plays of Goldoni for their ingenious mix of wit and honesty. His plays offered his contemporaries images of themselves, often dramatizing the lives, values, and conflicts of the emerging middle class.
The museum is where he was born and celebrates his work as an artist. The house was built in the 15th century and tucked in a Venice alley/street. The family remained there until 1719.
The collection is famous for its manuscripts, puppets, and masks. When I visited, I was the only one there in the house other than personnel.Written November 29, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. They have almost nothing, and the only visible map of the city is not handed out for free - you have to pay for it.
Also other brochures were with general info were missing. They just focus on selling the inclusive Venice cards here.
However, if you ask questions to the staff, they will gladly answer, with all details.Written February 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
