What travelers are saying
- ZAHHertfordshire36 contributionsWent to Ponte dell'Accademia to view the Grand Canal.
Stunning views from this point, a perfect photo spot.
It’s a little out the way from St Marks Square but definitely worth the walk.Written March 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - deanbpjsEastbourne, UK326 contributionsThis was well worth the visit. It’s actually not that old and there’s not much inside. BUT the view from the top is worth every Euro of the €10 cost.
We got to Piazza San Marco for 8:30 in the morning before the queues and crowds built up. That’s the first tip. Avoid the crush and be there before opening. We waited half an hour to beat the rush and were 3rd in the queue. By the time it opened the queue stretched across the square half way back to the waterfront
So on to the view. If you like views then this is your must-do if visiting Venice. The panorama is stunning
There’s an elevator and you can’t walk up (so that’s good - both from a still being able to breathe point of view; but also from a crowd management at the top perspective). Considering the numbers waiting, the top of the tower wasn’t over crowded and unpleasant
And that’s all there is to it really. Views = amazing (see the pics)!Written February 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Marko Ž.Maribor, Slovenia5 contributionsI recommend at least a two-day visit to experience Venice in the morning, afternoon and evening. A very safe place with a large crowd of people, but they disappear towards the evening and you can walk alone and feel the Venetian atmosphere.Written February 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Elina MichaelidouLondon, UK584 contributionsThe San Giorgio Maggiore church was not very impressive but the views from the top really made up for it. There is a lift that takes you to the top, and the views of Venice are amazing. While walking around the church we could see a few art exhibitions too. In total, we spend around 40 minutes there.Written November 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Adriana U6 contributionsI chose this after getting a bit of advise from a seasoned Venice traveller. Definitely better than staying near the piazza. St Mark's square area is vibrant and full of amusement but it is also terribly crowded and if you want some quiet time, you are better of choosing Dorsoduro where you can have both the nice sites and busy areas but also the quiet alleys. As a plus, you get to take pictures without the intrusive tourists and visitors. There are beautiful sites everywhere and a great combination of students and people of all ages sharing the space.Written March 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 3CaldwellsIpswich, UK124 contributionsOne of the must see sights. I actually visited at night to capture the Noah fresco as well as the Bridge. The architecture is stunning and worth seeingWritten March 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kai CHalf Moon Bay, CA1,269 contributionsMonumental church (basilica!) on the Punta della Dogana side of the Grand Canal. Hosts paintings by Titian, Tintoretto, Giordano, a famous Byzantine icon and impressive marble statuary. Merits the (nice) walk.Written January 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- SMLikestoTravelBengaluru, India277 contributionsWe had booked the tour of the clock tower. It was very interesting and a unique experience to see the inner workings of the clock. - Ken TGlen Oaks, NY609 contributionsTravelling to one of the well-known islands of Murano, Burano, or Torcello you go through the Venice lagoon. Its clean and offers a stunning view of all the city gates, boats, airport, and wastewater plant.Written September 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John PMelbourne, Australia1,192 contributionsI love markers, real markets where locals shop, where one buys fruit and vegetables in season and get the vibe of the place. Queuing often leads to chats with locals even if only by sign language where common language isn’t available. The Rialto market is a particular favourite with wonderful fish and seafood and vegetable stalls selling an immense range of fruit and vegetables. Vendors were without exception friendly and welcoming and helpful in selecting produce.Written December 28, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jinty059Glasgow, UK185 contributionsManaged to find this beautiful building with the help of a good detailed map of Venice, well hidden away up tiny alleys, but some street signage to keep one right. Took lots of photos but did not climb up the spiral staircase. Knees would not have survived after walking for days around Venice. Worth a visit.Written March 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Hendrik_NLVlaardingen, The Netherlands7,385 contributionsThere are many reasons to avoid visiting Venice. The suffocating amount of tourists visiting Venice on a given day, the extortionate prices in the bars and restaurants, which are mostly tourist traps and the expensive parking fees to name a couple. But all those drawbacks pale alongside the unique place Venice is, with the canals, the bridges, the glorious, historic, sometimes crumbling buildings and the "usual suspects" of world famous attractions, the Doge Palace, San Marco square, the San Marco Basilica, the Rialto bridge, to name a couple. And the complete absence of road traffic, if you discount people with hand trucks, transporting goods "the last mile" from boat to destination, somewhere in an alley. Yes, Venice is a fairy tale and every time we visit the Veneto we make a profound vow not to go to Venice this time, but every time we find ourselves on a given day parking the car at the Tronchetto multi storey car park (goodbye 25 euros for a start) and catching the people mover to Piazzale Roma.
