I thought I knew about the Azores until I went here and learned so much more. Very interesting, especially if you have roots in the Azores. The connection between these islands and the vibrant Portuguese communities in Toronto Canada, Massachusetts, California, and Hawaii are explained here. Although this museum is small, it has a lot to offer. The displays are simple but informative. I highly recommend the audio tour.I hope they continue to expand the offerings in this little gem.

We only had a short time to look around. What a beautiful little town and gem of a museum.
Visited out of the main season in March but dropped in very lucky with the weather.

Guided tour and was very informative. Geat view from 3rd floor. Be sure to see the carriage house across the road. It has all the carts and wagons.

The Bradt Guide to the Azores lists three small museums in Ribeira Cha, but visiting them is confusing. It turns out that even though they're not physically contiguous, a guide from the first museum, next door to the church, takes you to all three sites. The first museum includes a variety of artifacts. I found a collection of old school books to be the most interesting. The second museum, the Casa Museu Maria dos Anjos Melo, is the home of a woman whose life spanned the 20th century. As a typical house of the past century, this was the most interesting part of the tour. The third museum is the Agricultural Museum, a mildly interesting garden with various species of plants that have been cultivated over the centuries in the Azores.

The entrance fee is 2 euros for all three museums, and if you have time, it's worth visiting. You can see all three in less than an hour. You might tell the guide that you just want to see the "house museum."
