- Albert Chan ParanCebu City, Philippines620 contributionsIt was an answered prayer and a big check ✔️ on my bucket list to visit the Divine Mercy Shrine in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental where I had a Divine Mercy Holy Week 2019 Pilgrimage where I pray for miracles and healing.
Maam Elizabeth, on Holy Thursday during my first night at the shrine over dinner right after the holy mass, I was totally moved to tears and all of my body hair raised up from the tip of my head up to the hairs on my legs by her powerful testimonial that totally blew me off. I was absolutely speechless and in mixed emotions. It made me reflect and praise in silence the wonder of God's miracle from the moment she decided to end her life by committing suicide more than a decade ago and, as she found her painless body opened up on the operating table in the hospital after 6 months praying the "Lord of Pardon" booklet when she accepted the Divine Mercy of Our Lord Jesus Christ into her life. She gave me her booklet to pray for healing.
On Good Friday, I prayed the Day 1 of the 9 days Divine Mercy novena with the chaplet at the Divine Mercy Hour at 3PM facing the 50ft statue. During the Santo Entierro Procession at around 5PM, God sent a Dancing Sun/Miracle of the Sun. It was the third time I personally experienced this phenomenon.Written January 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The grounds provide well-maintained pastures, plantations and cropland. The cafe has excellent coffee and sweets. The gift shop is piled with goodies... snacks, home-grown coffee, honey, jams, and much more... all at very reasonable prices! Don't miss the small museum of elaborately woven vestments produced decades ago... some for very special occasions. The church is peaceful and simple... just right for a bit of personal reflection.Written May 27, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mackibey88 contributionsOnce you go through the gates, it's like a different place from where you came. Timeless, too. It's a nice place to visit especially for someone who hasn't seen a Buddhist temple like us. It's feels like time stops here. Being non-Buddhist, we felt intruding as we went in the temple. You can go in as you please, just be respectful since it's a place of prayer. Don't forget to take off your shoes to go inside the temple itself.Written October 26, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jun RuayaCalamba, Philippines52 contributionsThe church could have retained its historical value had not the Catholic community modernized the facade of the church. What makes the church a must-see for tourists is that its original altar was designed by the country's national hero during his three-year exile in the province in late 1800.A marker installed by the historical institute near the entrance proves the claims of church administrators. What is inside is the modern version of the old church. Its the only landmark left to remind people of its connection with the colonizers. The old municipio, which was the exact replica of the municipal hall of Maribojoc built by the Americans was totally modernized without any semblance of the old structure left.
It's not anymore very hot inside since it has industrial-sized ceiling electric fans. Better seat near the side entry doors for the cooler air blowing into the building. If you prefer an air-conditioned house of worship, there is one in nearby barrio Santa Filomena but smaller compared to the cathedral. One thing good during Mass here is that its parish priest delivers thought-provoking homilies during the celebration.
If your want to see a really Spanish-time church go the nearby Dapitan parish church where an earthen map of Mindanao, which was installed by the national hero, still exist. All the other landmarks in the city are recent creations. There are some masses celebrated in English, contrary to earlier review where the mass is said in the native language of the place.Written November 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John TCebu City, Philippines1,068 contributionsAs tourist, I am more drawn to the beautiful collections of older churches in the Philippines - but what this one lacks in age, it makes up for in rich, spiritual experience. The paintings on the walls, stained glass, and other painted panels are a testament to the love and dedication people have for this church. The altar area is beautiful and simple. Sunday mass was heavily attended! I could have sat in one of the nice wooden church pews a longer time, but I was trying to see other features in Davao.Written April 28, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JoepepCielosLuzon, Philippines1,130 contributionsThis was my second time to visit the Metropolitan Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Zamboanga City. But this was my first time to attend a mass and got to see the second floor of the church.
What is unique about this holy place is that it houses two (2) churches or worship places: one (1) at the ground floor and another one (1) at the second floor. But all the regular masses are being conducted at the second floor.
The church is big and white. The design is both timely and stylish with some old designs that can be seen in its window and wall glasses.
It was a great place to worship and pray.Written November 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Kìzomama KMindanao, Philippines1,018 contributionsThe Architecture or outside appearance is amazing.

Old structure, well conserved with a very original interior decoration what gives a direct link to the community.
Quiet place and well ventilated. The place to sit down for a while (even when you are not Catholic).
You have to go there!Written June 14, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Jun RuayaCalamba, Philippines52 contributionsThis is not really a must-see ecotourism destination in Dipolog. This is only for the very healthy, good pair of lungs, non-smokers and for people with a strong heart. But for the fundamentalist Catholics this 3,0003-step concrete stairway is a pilgrimage venue for the presence of the 14 stations of the Cross. Parishioners walk up the steps during the Holy Week for the community's Katkat Sakripisyo church event.
I suggest you make first a tour to Dapitan and Dipolog to familiarize the local terrain.Travel up to the Sungkilaw Falls in Diwan, the airport to the outskirts of Dapitan..Thus make the climb as your last destination. In so doing, when you are already at the top, you can easily identify landmarks in Dipolog like the boulevard, airport, river, subdivisions, highways, bridges and highways. From the peak you have a 360-degree view of the twin cities. I suggest you start your climb early morning, around 6 am on a weekend so by 9 am you would reach the top where telcos and national TV stations have their repeater antennas.
Bring bottles of water and food since there are no restaurants there. A consolation is that there are stores at the foot and near the peak in the vicinity of the Lugdungan elementary school. But bring along your garbage after your picnic at the top.
My caution is do not attempt to run up or down the steps since its higher altitude would burden your lungs. Second, it could injure your knees. It's even harder to walk down than to walk up the stairway.A day or two before you climb try to do some exercises for your legs and waists so that after the climb you would not be injured.
But if you no other place to visit in Dipolog then you may savor the scenery from the top.Written November 6, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The first are the stations of the cross on a rather easy and not very steep walkway that takes about twenty to thirty minutes. The second experience and the real adventure comes once you find the slightly hidden small path around the 12th station up the hill where you can walk on a steep path with sharp grass and often unstable ground completely unprotected by trees. Took us another hour two get up there and more than once I was close on giving up. You don't actually see much of the crater once up there, on the second radio tower/lookout you can see White Island though. Going down I was hardly able to stand stable, was often just sliding down on my bottom.Written February 16, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jun RuayaCalamba, Philippines52 contributionsI visited this church last July 15, the feast of the patron saint of the Dapitanos, St. Michael the Archangel. If the Rizal Shrine is a must during your tour, this old church is very historical and existed before the national hero, therefore your first priority before the Talisay landmark. In front Rizal built a map of Mindanao. Rizal used to attend Mass here since he used to live in an old villa near the church before his house and dormitories were completed. in Talisay.
It also faces the old plaza and old municipio, thus your first landmark upon reaching the poblacion. It has retained its rustic atmosphere and most of the icons date back during the Hispanic colonization of Mindanao.Anywhere you roam around the poblacion the belfy would be your guide.I suggest you first stop here before proceeding to the shrine which had undergone several face lifting that the shrine had lost its original infrastructure. This church was the symbol of the people's blind faith to Catholicism. Because of the existence of the Catholic church, the people opposed then the construction of a school ran by the American missionaries who were protestants. Thus the builders were forced to moved accross the sea the Silliman University to Dumaguete, not in Dapitan as originally planned during the 1900s.Their faith had blinded the pro-Catholic residents and failed to obtained the best English education during that time.Written November 5, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
