The carpark is located approx. 100m at the bottom of the hill, no room for a bus to turn. Its quite a beautiful building, white coloured and with various statues decorating the structure. Furnishings and fittings are sympathetic to the era and compliment the design of the various rooms. Some ancient cannons are mounted in the grounds, attractive gardens and great views.Written December 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan LBunbury, Australia7,494 contributionsFirst time that we have visited a temple that pays homage to a whale. According to legend, a whale carcass washed up on the beach over v100 years ago and so big that the fishermen had to wait until the flesh decomposed before being able to bring the bones ashore and display them. The bones were regarded as a symbol of protection of the coast.Written December 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David BRayong, Thailand9,813 contributionsI have previously reviewed the Vo Thi Sau Monument, a shrine dedicated to a 16-year-old Vietnamese girl who joined the Viet Minh seeking liberation of her country from the French colonial oppressors.
She went into a cafe frequented by French officers and rolled a grenade under their table. Unfortunately she was caught and imprisoned.
She was then sentenced to death and executed by firing squad, even though under French law she was a minor, and should not have been executed.
This visit was particularly poignant as I had some of my granddaughters with me, one of whom is 16 years old, the same age as Vo Thi Sau when she was criminally executed by the French.Written January 29, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David BRayong, Thailand9,813 contributionsThe Martyrs' Memorial, a tribute to the Viet Cong of Baria-Phuoc Tuy Province killed in actions against the Australians, ironically sits where the headquarters of the 1st Australian Logistic Support Unit once stood.
It comprises a high column set in a marble plaza on top of a hill overlooking most of Vung Tau.
On the column is inscribed the equivalent of "Lest We Forget" and commemorates nearly 3,000 local VC killed during the war.Written January 22, 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
