- westy54Sydney, Australia9,050 contributionsThis church dates back to the 12th century when following a visit by Thomas Beckett, the Archbishop of Canterbury, in 1162, a chapel and oratory were built. These were transformed into a church during the 13th century. The current building dates back to the mid 15th century and was built on the original 13th century structure.
The 15th century facade is of brick and has a single Renaissance portal and an oculus. The current bell tower, which forms part of the apse, was built in 1464 following the collapse of the previous bell tower.
Inside the structure is of a single nave with three side chapels on either side and a tower apse built into the city walls. However the chapels on the right side are a different width to those on the left. It is assumed that this is the result of the fact that the longitudinal walls of the nave are a different length due the positioning of the facade to align with the street.
Internally the church's appearance dates back substantially to the 18th century with the richly decorated stucco nave and presbytery as well as the heavily decorated side altars. There are remnants of frescoes on the walls and a number of 16th century artworks. The vaulted ceiling above the main altar and the walls of the apse are beautifully decorated with gold trim whilst there are a number of marble columns.Written December 16, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are few gallery dealers who have the sophistication and knowledge provided by Grantfield Gallery.Written June 14, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bigvicSydneySydney, Australia3,552 contributionsJust because this is not a giant cathedral doesn’t reduce the historic importance of this small yet impressive church. The first one built in Anghiari. RecommendedWritten October 3, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Michael G1 contributionWe were strolling through Montalcino when we came across the Busatti shop. Since it was late they were already closed but could see some nice articles.
Upon returning home we ordered one tablecloth and 8 napkins. Delivery time was appropriate and the packaging of the items showed the pride they take in their craft and their products.
Tablecloth and napkins: immaculate, beautiful and high quality (see photos).
Included was a handwritten greetings card. Where else do you get that kind of customer treatment, even for a first time buyer?
This was our first time purchase but surely not the last one.
Mille graziee cordiali saluti
