The part by the river undoubtedly superb. You really need a car to get there, The full circuit 12 kilometres half woods, half river. A mini circuit the other side about 4 kilometres. Starting point St Anne, somethingbest place as there are toilets and car park.

As is our custom we visited the tourist information office on arrival in Saint-Brieuc. It is easy to find and in a modern building in the town centre. We received friendly and helpful advice from the courteous staff along with maps and all the information we requested.

    Well worth a visit.

We heard about this Chapelle from a leaflet given to us at the Tourist Info Office in Saint-Brieuc as it features as part of a walking tour of Art Deco buildings from the early 20th century. It looked interesting so we sought it out and were not disappointed. We walked to it from the valley below and it was a bit difficult to find but well worth the trouble, Ifyou like this style of architecture, which I do.

You need to go to the Madison Saint Yves on arrival to request admission to the Chapel behind and pay a modest admission fee. (we didn’t visit the house itself).

The 20th century cloisters are interesting and then you enter the high vaulted chapel splendidly decorated with a fascinating mixture of Celtic and Christian symbols. The murals on the walls depict the stations of the cross. Don’t miss the crypt with its vivid and modern stained glass windows,

Having never been to Saint Brieuc, and on the basis of finding a hotel with excellent reviews, and of the photos of some half timbered buildings, we decided to spend a long weekend there.

The centre of Saint Brieuc is very run down, with graffiti and empty smashed up buildings everwhere. It would also appear to be a place where asylum seekers are dispersed to, for there are groups of young men occupying themselves aimlessly in the centre of town. We decided that we would not want to go out there after dark.

In our hotel we got a local map, so we followed a track / cycleway through a wooded gorge and below some very high and impressive bridges, and about 35 minutes later (via the sewage works) we found Porte de Plaisance.

We spent a very pleasurable couple of hours sitting in the sun at the Bar Tabac, having a drink and watching the boats and the world go by.

This little museum is located at the heart of the city. It has a lot to offer to visitors including many artefacts used by people in Brittany in the past, either fishermen or craftsmen or peasants. Worth spending an hour.

Erected in 12th century this half fortress - half cathedral is worth a visit. it offers a very interesting experience: very dark, humid and cold inside, only its beautiful stained glass windows offers some warmth.

We usually park down by the port and take a walk up to the villa. Outstanding views over the tower of Cesson and to the bright blue sea beyond.
The park itself is relatively accessible with a good path and a harder to follow one both leading up to the villa.
The villa itself has its history written on the windows, it's good to know it was used by the Bosnian refugees just as recent as the 90s.
I dropped lucky a few weeks ago, there were tonnes of plums on the ground and a few figs that I took home to make jam.
