St. Mellion Estate presents an ambiance that captivates with its elegance, despite certain elements feeling worn, as noted by guests. The experiences in the rooms vary, with some visitors enjoying the well-furnished spaces while others point out the need for updates. Cleanliness generally receives high marks, but there have been instances where it fell short of expectations. Service quality at the estate is inconsistent, ranging from commendable to lacking. The amenities, including the lauded golf courses and spa, are often a highlight, although some areas reportedly require refreshment. On the value front, the sentiment is divided, with numerous guests questioning the pricing relative to their experiences.

Extremely disappointed. As ex members from many years ago and local people we booked an overnight stay to meet with some friends and have a cheeky night away after both being ill. Upon arrival I can’t say the reception team were particularly friendly, they carried on chatting between themselves for a few minutes before acknowledging us. Neither were we advised about meals, towelling robes, the facilities, but having been members before we kind of knew the basics. The room was ok, dated, bed is NOT a king size. The water temperature is appalling, either scalding hot or freezing cold, I could not have a bath as the water would not have held out so settled on a shower. When we mentioned this on our way to dinner the reception team seemed like this is not an unusual complaint and just saying they will pass it on is not good enough. The pool area has not changed. It is a crying shame that St. Mellion do not recognise what a spa hotel should offer such as nice beds (there were 4), a hot! Hot tub and more space to get away from the kids swim schools. It requires an extension and someone with vision on what people actually want from a spa hotel. Lockers don’t lock- lovely refit in the changing rooms. I slipped getting into the hot tub, the top step is slippery and reflecting back I am not sure if the light was working, resulting in a broken little toe and yes I was holding the handrail! Dinner in the evening was underwhelming- it states no need to book (main restaurant was closed) but the one table that wasn’t reserved was not laid up and at no stage did we get offered to have our table laid up. The food was ok, main ingredients left out of one meal. The service was patchy, being kind the young waitress was busy. There was no check back and had to walk to find a waitress with an issue with one meal. Also trying to get the bill was a joke, no one was around and after a good 10-15 minute wait we had to pay at the bar.

Don’t be fooled by the grounds. The hotel at st Mellion is awful. There was no hot water in our room, just about luke warm, the ‘king sized bed’ was 2 singles pushed together with single mattress protecter and a quilt that hardly fitted. Most premier inns are significantly better that this place - I guess they trade off the golf course, if you’re looking for a. Ice spa break or a romantic night - go elsewhere.

We found the leisure facilities at St Mellion & the reception area to be lovely & decorated well however we had a few issues outside of this. The room itself (& the corridors leading to it) were very tired. Cracks in tiles, peeling silicone & broken carpets were present throughout. We had paid for a babymoon package & with this we had a nicer room. However, I would not want to have stayed in any of the more basic rooms given the tired state of what we were in. We could only book the restaurant for one night & had to eat in the bar the other. Our meal in the bar tasted nice but it was very slow service, they forgot to bring our drinks (we had to ask 20 minutes later) & got our order wrong. They did correct this but it wasn’t ideal. We had also booked an extra night in the hotel to have in addition to our package. However, despite having a do not disturb sign on the door & having the room for a whole further day the cleaning walked in the room at 11.30qm whilst my partner was using the shower as she thought we were checking out. I think their must have been a mix up on the system with the added nights stay All in all the hotel looks lovely on the face of it & the leisure facilities are lovey. The rooms & corridors theirselves need some updating & some of the food services could do with improving including further training for staff in the restaurants

It was a 50/50 stay. Elements were good and some not. Breakfast great, dinner was fine but wine arrived after the starters not open for us Staff hovering with bill so they could leave. Room ok, bathroom fixtures mouldy. Spa and pool nice. Management response poor.

I booked a night at St Mellion for my partner and I. We had planned to use the leisure facilities and have an enjoyable evening meal. The check in was easy and the girls on reception were friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and I paid for a view of the course, it was definitely worth it. Opening the balcony in the morning and hearing the birds sing whilst enjoying a coffee was lovely. We didn’t end up using the pool etc but it looked great and wasn’t overly busy. I was somewhat disappointed with the evening meal, the main restaurant wasn’t open so we dined in the more relaxed no.18 restaurant; it seemed the chef was having an off day as there were a lot of complaints from different tables, one lady in particular was becoming very agitated and angry and this definitely spoiled the mood in the dining room (it was Valentine’s Day). Our food was ok, albeit the kitchen forgot to put the king prawns in my partners tagliatelle, my food (the pork) was again satisfactory but the kitchen forgot my crackling, I asked three times for the crackling but it never came. They did take away my partners meal and re cook it with the king prawns, just meant I ate alone for five-ten minutes. The drinks were good and well priced. The desserts and cheese plate were again average. We headed back up to the room which was a good size and had a nice bathroom, it is a little dated but the bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast in the morning was good, the chef was bringing out freshly cooked breakfast items frequently and topping up the buffet. I ordered avocado and poached eggs, these were great and very tasty. The coffee was average and came from a machine. However there was a couple of young waitresses who were fabulous, they were friendly and attentive and did a super job. Overall, this was a good stay and pleasant experience, it was a real shame the evening was a bit flat and ruined by an angry customer next to our table (definitely ruined any tones of romance). Well done to the two girls at breakfast, you are a credit to the hotel and brightened up the mornings service.

Dear 232hectorc We are glad that for the most part your stay was an enjoyable one. We apologise for the issues with the missing items on your meals, we are in the process of rolling out new menus and it has put additional pressure on the kitchen team. Though this is not an excuse for missing crackling from a pork dish. It is good to know that they in some ways redeemed themselves with the breakfast service. We very much hope to welcome you back again.

Loved, loved, loved my stay. Amenities were fantastic as were the staff. Beautiful views from our lodge. Would be worth a repeat visit if they sorted the billing system for the use of the electrics. I would highly recommend with the addendum about the electric meter.

This review is about the Timeshare Lodge we stayed in. The standard of cleaning was not good despite earlier comments from the management that this would be looked at after earlier complaints on Tripadvisor. There seems to be no check on each lodge before you check in. No-one seemed to have found the awful roasting tin in one of the cupboards for example. We had no hot water on arrival and the emersion heater was not working all week so we were only able to use the booster. You pay for heating but we were unable to get warm in the living room after arriving back to the lodge in the early evening. There was no attempt at recycling which we found quite depressing too. The decor was dated as we expected but there is no excuse for the rest - blaming the contract cleaners is not good enough.

Dear BertandJoyce Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us here at St Mellion. We welcome all feedback, both positive and negative as it helps us to improve as a business going forward. We are sorry that standards were not we would have hoped for on this occasion. There are checks carried out on properties before guests arrivals, unfortunately it would seem that on this occasion they were not as thorough as they should have been. The maintenance team have investigated the issues with the boiler and we are awaiting a full report. We do recycle here, any items that require recycling are collected by the grounds team as and when required. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Stayed here in the Olazabal Suite while attending a Christmas Party. Overall, must admit to feeling a little underwhelmed. While the room/suite was huge, it still had a very dated and tired from the furniture/decor. Minor thing also but the whole floor was the creakiest I've ever come across - if there were rooms below they would not have been impressed! The party evening was well down, especially considering how many people were in attendance and so can only give good feedback on that aspect. Breakfast, sadly, was another disappointment. Seemed very poorly organised, no-one to greet or point you in the right direction, lack of seating resulting is us having to sit in the bar area while pushing through a crowded food area only to find no plates and items of the breakfast food missing. The cold plates were replaced along with the hot food but the choice and quality were not what we expected. We had a far more enjoyable breakfast experience from a Premier Inn stay a few weeks ago! All in all - the Xmas party effort was there for all to see. The hotel and breakfast element of our visit left us feeling of not getting anywhere near value for money for what was an expensive overnight stay. Would not stay over again.

Dear Andrewm Thank you for your review. The breakfast setup is constantly being reviewed. We did have pre-set bookings times in order to be aware of the busier time. Unfortunately most guests do not want this as they do not know what time that want breakfast the next day. We may have to implement something similar on event nights going forward to prevent large crowds attending at the same time. The flooring is currently being investigated as part of the general refurbishment planned for the hotel. We are delighted that you enjoyed the party aspect of your stay.

Negatives - arrived in lodge to find a poo in the toilet, dishwasher not cleaned for a while and gooey, finger nails on bathroom sink, sink not cleaned, shower drains not clean and hairy, carpet coming up and curtain rail coming off wall. Emailed but still not heard anything from Housekeeping. It’s been a week. Don’t spose I will be. Lodge negatives - you walk in the front door to a separate area which is perfect to take shoes and coats off apart from its empty and no where to hang or store anything. Real over look! Furniture in living area is very uncomfortable (personal opinion). None of the bedrooms have any mirrors in them. First bedroom had a very nice TV stuck in the corner over the desk, very weird. Could have done with spending the money on mirrors instead (again personal opinions) Positives - once we had cleaned everything and turned the heating up we really enjoyed our stay. The niggles didn’t really affect anything apart from a few moans. We were there for our Christmas party (Dec 2nd night) and it was great! Food was hot and lovely! Service was better than last year (shout out to the blonde foreign lady hosting and making sure it was done right. She knows what she’s doing and it showed.) All the staff worked hard. Dj was great and got everyone up and dancing! It’s our 2nd year there for our Christmas party and planning next year as well! Other than that we just chilled in our lodge. It’s lovely and quiet. Kitchen was great. We knew showers/hot water is a tank so just showered in turns. (Tip: Don’t all shower at once as hot water runs out) water is lovely and hot though. Lodge is very spacious. Great few days! P.s. I do have a picture of the poop but I won’t post it case your eating while reading lol.

Dear Road67347315812 Thank you for your review. Thank you for bringing the issues within the cottage to our attention. This is not the standard expected and the the housekeeping team have been made aware and additional checks are being carried out to ensure similar does not occur again going forward. With the cottages we are constantly reviewing the offering and given they are still a relatively (in terms of refurbishment) new addition to the estate we are still adapting these to best suit the needs of the guests. With this, mirrors, storage and indeed TV placement is subject to change as we go forward. We are delighted you enjoyed the Christmas party and look forward to welcoming you back again.

We have stayed at St. Mellion a few times over the years. We booked the “Sunday Sleepover” which was yesterday/this morning. This included a carvery lunch on Sunday, bed & breakfast and the use of the health spa. We also paid £30 extra for a superior room. When we booked this break, we already knew the earliest we could check into the room was 3pm, which was fine because our carvery was booked for 2pm. Unfortunately we had some issues: 1) The air conditioning in the room wasn’t working and the room was quite cold. We spoke to the receptionist who said she would ask the maintenance department to have a look. A guy did come to our room and have a look but he couldn’t really do much - it looked like we would have to wait until the following morning. When I mentioned this again at check-out, I was told the maintenance team finishes work at 5pm. So if you can only check into your room at 3pm, this gives maintenance only 2 hours to resolve problems with the accommodation. 2) The TV wasn’t working properly initially. I actually think that a previous resident in our room had played around with the TV settings just to annoy the next residents (US!). …considering the fact we had paid for the superior room, we shouldn’t really have had these problems. I did get an apology when checking out but that was it. 3) The breakfast looked like it had been lingering for some hours…then bacon was burnt to a cinder and the milk for cereal was warm. Other breakfast items looked like they had been hanging around for several hours too. Actually, my wife and I had stomach upsets when we got home this morning. Generally we were disappointed and will be unlikely to return.

Dear Philiperkin6 We apologise for the issues experienced with the air conditioning. During the day rooms are checking by the housekeeping team and if needed reported to maintenance. This was all issues should be resolved prior to the maintenance team finishing their shifts. The issue with the A/C was unfortunately down to hardware within the main unit. This has to be resolved by an external company fitting new parts and was beyond the scope of the maintenance team. We will be checking and locking all TV's to prevent changes to the settings going forward to avoid. This is generally in place currently but it would appear some rooms have managed to be unlocked/forgotten to lock. All of the breakfast items do have a maximum standing time time, which we adhere too and infact have tougher standards which we set for ourselves so that nothing should be on the serving station for longer than is required. Regards
