The Stipp Hotel was the worst hotel I stayed at the past year in Kigali. From the time I arrived the staff was not helpful and had problems with my reservations and made me pay instead of working through the travel agency I contracted. The room was musty and dingy. The bathroom had one towel and it looked like it was used to clean the floor. The tub had stains from years of use and poor cleaning. The pool looked as if it had not been cleaned in a week or more and the gym was not worth it.

From the outside, it looks like a scene from California, with the lush vegetation, palm trees, yellow buildings and villa type design. The illusion somewhat ends at reception as the inner workings of this hotel come to light. Once again, the staff are friendly and helpful which unfortunately does not make up for some of the shortcomings of the establishment. The room was clean with a television that had a remote without batteries, but with very little to watch anyway, this was not a great loss. The lighting and power for the room was operated by a retro set of buttons on the bedside table and a temporary floor fan made up for the lack of air-con in the somewhat humid room. The bathroom was acceptable, yet the one ply toilet paper stood in stark contrast to the other amenities on offer including a shoe sponge, comb and other fairly elevated items. The room had no tea or coffee but did have a kettle. The 'Do Not Disturb' sign was a DIY job with coffee stains still on it. The best part of the hotel is the pool with a lovely bar which was never in use during our visit. The food however is mediocre to say the least, with an extensive menu, that at best only ever has a handful of items actually available. The staff speak very little English which can make ordering somewhat challenging. Breakfast is also limited to fruits, toast, some basic pastries, eggs, cheese and corn flakes. Overall it was a bearable stay with complimentary Wi-Fi and a decent shower experience at hand.

I spent a weekend at this hotel. The hotel is situated in a quiet and beautiful location in the leafy suburb of Kiyovu. What makes this Hotel worth every penny is its excellent Manager, Aston. He is a hands-on Manager who will do everything possible to make you comfortable. I will obviously stay at this hotel again.

Located a mere 5-minute taxi drive from the city center, Kigali's version of the Stipp Hotel chain offers a very nice, tropical-like setting in a quiet side street (KN 52) off the city's spacious KN 3 road, including a small swimming pool, a work-out room and massages. Unfortunately, the enticing envrions are not matched by the hotel's facilities; our somewhat worn room (number 203), came with a disgustingly soiled bathtub floor (but also with a walk-in shower). The very limited breakfast selection (the restaurant was out of butter Sunday, May 24) certainly does not justify the walk-in price of US$ 175.00, not even the promotional price for a twin-bed doulbe room of $ 120.00. All in all, there's much room for improvement. The biggest asset is receptionist Bertand - an extremely kind, welcoming and helpful individual who makes up for some of the disappointments of Stipp Hotel Kigali.

Very expensive for what it is, but that's a description that works for many things in Kigali. Large room with a TV that doesn't work, and slow internet. Bedroom and bathroom fully equipped but in need of a refurb. The food is good from the restaurant and the staff are all very helpful and pleasant - including the manager, who moved me to here from another group hotel which was bad. Instead of relying on hotel internet get out and buy a local SIM card. I got a 1-week unlimited internet package on an MTN sim card for $10, and it's very fast.

The rooms are neat and welcoming. The hotel is in a fearly tight environment in terms of space! I will say Stepp Hotel is good for sleep; and isn't that the most important reason we patronise hotels? So, it is not bad after all!

Arrived to hotel late evening after long tiring trip from Burundi. The manager at the front desk informed me immediately that there are no rooms available. I mentioned that I have reservation and written confirmation but he did not even want to check if there is my name in the system. The same refers to my 3 colleagues that arrived with me - the same booking. After few minutes of discussion the manager took me on side and asked how much going to pay and when I answered that I booked a room for USD100 per night he said : no room for you. He did not even ofer transport to another hotel. I ended up outside Central kigali in a doggy Stipp 2 hotel and the night after moved to another hotel. The worst thing is that my colleagues that understand local language heard that there were available rooms!!!

I had been to this hotel to visit their poolside restaurant. They took time to serve Pizza but it was delicious. The place is very quiet and manned by good staff. I am sure you will be served with some excellent pizzas.

I have stayed in this place many times on business trips (that was not my choosing), and I would not recomend it. Starting with shuttle, which is very often late, or simply not arriving, later through mess in the reception, pretty worn rooms and finally the food. The food is gradually geting worse over last couple of years. I tried almost all they have in the menu and was disappointed everytime. It is much better to get a cab and ask driver to take you to the nice restaurant. bottomline is that it may be not too bad for overnight stays, but notheg else. If you travel in the morning talk to the reception multiple times to arrange shuttle, or just get a local driver for $10.

Ordinarily i'd have given this place 3 stars... reasonable rooms, pretty setting, friendly and facilitative staff... though I would also note more attention to detail is required and some signs of uncleanliness in the rooms and public places need to be looked at.. However, I found the attitude of management to be completely inappropriate and unacceptable, and thus even this 1 star is too much.. Long story short: Arrived at the airport where the hotel were contractually obliged by an international conference to provide a shuttle transfer... the shuttle had decided to depart with others from my flight rather than wait an extra 5 minutes for me.. i sat patiently for an hour in the airport waiting for it to come back, without complaint.. when the shuttle returned, the person in charge of the shuttle transfers asked me to wait another hour for guests from another flight to come in.. i refused... after some heated discussions, he finally gave me the transfer.. On the day of departure, i had arranged the day before with reception for the shuttle at a certain pre-agreed time.. when i reached reception, no sign of a shuttle.. i sat and waited 30 minutes without complaint.. with no shuttle still, and with no information about when the shuttle would arrive, i spoke to reception and asked to see the manager, as i found this unacceptable.. The person who i had had heated discussions with at the airport came to see me - i am not sure if he was the manager or who he was... when i raised my complaint, i was subjected to name-calling and accusation... 'you are not a nice person', 'you do not understand how things work here', 'you were already too demanding when you arrived', 'you have no respect for Rwanda', etc... and no reason or information about the shuttle... A 'customer relations' official then came soon after.. much more polished, but the message was essentially the same - shut up, sit down and just wait... Finally, the shuttle left 50 minutes later than the pre-arranged time.. It seems, therefore, that the attitude of this hotel is that its customers are actually its servants, at the hotel's beck and call.. that their customer's time is not of value... that reasonable complaints are not tolerated... As such, I would never stay at such a hotel again, irrespective of any other consideration.
