Ivan and Rada are wonderful hosts. Very comfortable house and grounds. The homemade food is amazing. This is a unique cultural experience because the property has been in Ivan’s family for about 200 years and the original homestead remains intact. This place is a museum and Ivan provides an excellent tour and explanation of the history of Serbia and the Balkan region.

Serene homely experience. House is well maintained with very functional with an amazing lawn, pool and interiors. Lot of history as well within the house. Hosts were amazing and friendly. Ivan is a star with taking care of all requirements with able support from his wife. It was nice to speak to them and share stories. This is a getaway for someone who is looking to get away from the buzz of the city to a serene, calm and nature bound environment

I have been calling Sumadija the Tuscany of the Balkans for years now. House of Colovic claims of being a Tuscany styled villa in the heart of Sumadija, sparked my interest but also increased my expectations. Not only did Colovic meet my expectations, the whole experience exceeded them! First of all, the house does have a Tuscany charm with a modern yet traditional feel of a Serbia home. Fire place equipped main rooms with modern bedroom heaters and bathroom heated floors made for a lovely balance between romantic and comfort. The rooms are filled with artwork, pictures dating back many a generation and a collection of antiques that rival modest museums. The house accommodated four adults and four children easily. Everything was extremely clean and the wifi was better than a lot of Tuscany villas we’ve stayed at. The yard and surrounding buildings, including one of the oldest preserved Sumadija homes, are in excellent order. It was winter during our first visit and look forward to partaking in the pool in the summer months. Wonderful house and surrounds aside, what really makes a stay at House of Colovic worthwhile is the couple that manage the property. Ivan and his wife were very attentive to our needs/requests, including our children. We took great joy in having a few beers outside while Ivan grilled up an amazing amount of food which included his homemade sausages (best I’ve had in some time). We were treated to free shots of homemade Dunja, quince brandy along with some tasty local wine… The house is located near to the main wine growing region of Serbia. Great house, amazing hosts with really tasty food and drink make House of Colovic our new go to weekend break from Belgrade- it’s about an hour and half drive with the last 30 minutes taking you through the vineyards of Sumadija and the forests at the foot of the mountain Rudnik.

We received a wonderfully warm welcome and tremendous hospitality throughout our stay at this unique place. It's not a hotel, but nor is it a traditional guest-house, - it really is something special. The beautiful rural location is ideal for relaxation, but also conveniently located for the city of Kragujevic. We stayed in a comfortable double bedroom which had quality furnishings throughout, as did the whole house. Our room did not have air-conditioning but the locality is so quiet, it's very pleasant to open a window a night. The wifi is reliable both in the bedroom and on the terrace. The home-cooked food (dinner and breakfast) is delicious - made by the host, Ivan, and his mother, using local produce including stuff made at House of Colovic itself. We also wanted to try a good Serbian wine with dinner, and Ivan's suggestion was great - and not expensive. As well as the beautiful countryside surrounding Mala Vrbica, the tourist sites close to the house are historic monasteries, The 21 October Museum, and the 'must-see' church and mausoleum of the Serbian and Yugoslav Royal House of Karađorđević located on top of Oplenac Hill in Topola. With advance notice, House of Colovic can organise excursions to these and other places (We did not use this service). It's an interesting historical place which Ivan who runs the place is happy to explain - putting the house and its development and reconstruction in the context of Serbian and Yugoslavian history. The garden is full of flowers and has a lovely small swimming pool with double-swing chair at one end - delightful for unwinding at the end of a hot summer's day. This place is well-priced for the high quality experience. It's truly heavenly, so try to stay for more than one night if you can!

Well we were hesitant to put Serbia on our itinerary and the thought of staying with a family in Serbia was a bit daunting, but Ivan and his mother are the perfect hosts! They absolutely could not do more to make our stay memorable and enjoyable even though we were only there for one night. I wished we could stay much longer. Don't be put off by the location - it's only 30 minutes or so from Belgrade or Kragujevac and just off one of the most scenic routes through central Serbia. The house is part of a beautifully restored family estate which dates back more than two centuries, but the main house is superbly modern. Our room was extremely comfortable and well appointed, even down to the dressing gowns in the bathroom. On arrival, Ivan served us home made plum brandy and quince brandy which are specialities of the estate. Ivan's English is much better than he believes and he's a great conversationalist with an excellent knowledge of regional foods and history. His mother serves amazing treats like wild blackberry conserve, coffee and Turkish delight. For dinner, Ivan cooked us a meat grill on the BBQ with corn bread, capsicum relish, grilled capsicums, cheeses, home cooked chips and local beer. We had a tour of the property which Ivan is turning into a museum. Breakfast was just as good but you'll have to stay there yourself to find out why! We loved this place and hope to be back again in the future, this time for longer! Thanks Ivan!

This was our first trip to Serbia and out of all of the places we went, the House of Colovic provided the best experience. We wanted to visit the mausoleum complex, Oplenac, in Topola. We decided to spend the night in the area and ran across Kucacolovica. I emailed the innkeeper, Ivan asking a few questions and a fabulous day resulted. He met us in Topola to provide translations for those areas of the Oplenac complex which have only Serbian signs. Great experience. We then followed him to three very beautiful small monasteries that we wouldn't have found on our own. When we arrived at the family homestead we were treated further to the family story as told by historical buildings on the property and lovely artwork. Ivan prepared a gourmet dinner for us as we talked over Serbian history and culture. The next morning, a lovely breakfast was prepared. Upon leaving, Ivan suggested one more stop, the museum and monuments for the October 21 victims of WWII. It was absolutely our favorite day in Serbia.

My company decided to accommodate guest at the "House of Colovic" which is actually near Kragujevac. It was a very pleasant experience for them - the house is fantastic, with preserved high-class look and ethnic decorations. There is a pool and huge yard for relaxation, and the staff is very friendly and ready to lend you a hand whenever you need something. It's a bit away from main cities, so it's perfect for relaxation or calm team building experience.
