The hotel phone number and address changed; it is No. 15 Ming Shan Road. The website also no longer works. Maybe they branded; I noticed the the Dunhuang Legend Hotel address (No. 15) and building picture matches two hotels by another name in TripAdvisor--Feitian Grand Hotel and Feitian Hotel (No 22), respectively. The Chinese name of the hotel is “Feitian” the English is Dunhuang Legend. The staff here is extremely courteous and polite. It makes me feel bad to say anything negative as I can see they try so hard to please. Our room was 409, which overlooks the back side alley/entrance of the hotel. We had problems with our electricity, the lights would flicker and when I looked for the plug behind the night stand, I discovered a wiring frenzy. It was pretty scary how many wires there were, crisscrossed every which way and with the copper wires exposed. A call to maintenance fixed the issue but the image of the potential fire hazard never left my mind. The electricity will continue to give us problems as the first night we couldn’t turn off the lights at all. So we unplugged the lamps where we could but the lamps overhead our beds couldn’t be turned off. It was fine earlier in the evening but when we were about to sleep around midnight, it wouldn’t turn off. We slept with the lights on. We could’ve called maintenance but it was so late and since it took a while for the electrician to fix it the first time, we couldn’t be bothered. We did tell the front desk the next morning for them to fix it. And the second night the same thing happened and since it was still early, we had maintenance come and fix it. Lack of hot water was an issue when showering late (11pm) probably because due to limited number of guests, they don’t keep the boiler going. A call to the front desk and it was fixed (they had to cycle the hot water, whatever that means). The room wasn’t very well lit and was very dated. There’s still an old-style CRT TV-set! We had two double beds on extremely hard mattresses. It felt like little more than carpeted floors. There was plenty of tabletop surface/counter space and the usual bathroom toiletries (shampoo, toothbrush/paste, shower cap, sewing kit, etc), hairdryer. There was free WiFi in the room and an electric kettle but no tea bags or instant coffee packs. Disposable slippers were also provided. Thank goodness the heat is very strong, otherwise it’s very chilly at night in the winter. The shower drainage was a disaster. The drain was half inside the shower stall and the shower door so when you have the water on full blast, the drain can’t manage. The water will move beyond the drain and into the bathroom flooding the floor behind the toilet. Needless to say, this or something in the drain caused the bathroom to begin smelling moldy by our second night. Because it was off season, breakfast was not the usual buffet. You sit at the table and they bring out the 6 or 7 dishes of Chinese-style dishes. It was very basic and only 1 or 2 dishes changed throughout our stay there. The location was very central. We were close the shopping strip and the night market street.
