Ronco is a beautiful village above Lake Maggiore near Ascona. The Albergo is beautifully situated with wonderful views of the lake. We ate a nice mixed salad and fish terrine from the lake fish, with white Merlot ( a local Ticino wine) and coffee. The dining room terrace is a great place to eat.

I actually found this place and was a little bit skeptical because the price was reasonable but it wasn't in the main town, but the reviews were really great and I went on trip advisor to check it out. Well I thought the restaurant was just good rather than fantastic the location is awesome the facility is great it's very comfortable it's very pleasant Nadia at the front desk was really wonderful. I would highly recommend this place especially for couples it looks like a very romantic place as it looks like because I'm here with my buddy not my wife but I'm definitely going to bring her back with me when she's able to travel more.. Again I'm so glad that I picked this place.

My girlfriend and myself spent 1 week in the Albergo Ronco and we had a wonderful time. The location is just amazing, the staff is incredibly friendly and the food in the restaurant is really good for breakfast as well as for diner. Of course the price is relatively high in comparison to the room size and level. For that price, one could expect something slightly more fancy.. But we'll it is laggo Maggiore and a big part of the invoice is related to the location. Nevertheless the friendliness of the owner (thanks again for the free bottle of wine at the end of our stay) as well as the location make it a place to go when willing to spend some time around the laggo Maggiore.

Cozy, homy, extremely comfortable hotel that offers breathtaking views. The service is very friendly and helpful. Perfect solution for the all family! You must book a room with lake view! The pasta (pappardelle) and fish (pike perch) in the restaurant are great!

The reception and the owners/employees were very friendly and tried to be helpful. The buffet breakfast was very good. The three stars I attributed were due to the sparseness of the room. First of all, the window curtains of an orange and yellow color did not block out daylight invading our room at 6:00 am waking us up. The Internet was unstable and with good I phones and laptops we had problems connecting and maintaining a connection. No tissues in the bathroom. No minibar or fridge to store anything cold. The toilet stayed at half mast and was never fixed. I beds were very low and our other family member had a wasted mattress and was never changed in spite of requests. As I stated the lakefront view was marvelous. However, if you are not an experienced driver used to mountainous narrow roads I would not recommend this hotel! Now you know the good and bad! We stayed four nights sufficient to provide the comments made in my review! Pat here is a small ledge between the bathroom and the bedroom which is easy to trip on!

Our daughter & fiance chose Castello Sasso Corbaro in Bellinzona, Switzerland for their June destination wedding. After considering several top tier venues in the Ascona area, the Ronco Albergo and Restorante was selected to host the reception dinner. We sought out an authentic Swiss restaurant with delicious food, top tier service, outstanding views and an intimate feel. Under the direction of Mr. Casparis, this 4th generation family and truly original Ticino type hotel and restaurant exceeded everyone's expectations! We truly found a gem on the hillside of Lake Maggiore to host this event. Situated just south of Ascona, on the hillside over looking Lake Maggiore you are presented not only with gorgeous views of the lake but fabulous vistas of the mountains. During the day or evening the views alone are worth the visit. But, our daughter wanted more that just a great view; she wanted a meal her guests would long remember. From that perspective Mr. Casparis and his team delivered in every possible way. They designed and delivered a menu for the evening, that based upon classic Swiss dishes, presented an exquisitely delicious gourmet cuisine with a contemporary touch. All of which was coordinated with superb wine selections. The table was prepared with a simple elegance (just what our daughter wanted); the food presentation was beautiful and every bite was a mouthwatering treat. From the very first course of Crema di pomodoro con gnocchetti to the main course of either Rack of Lamb with potatoes gratin and seasonal vegetables or the Filet of Beef with red wine sauce, rosemary potatoes and seasonal vegetables, guests are still commenting that, if not the best, it is one of the best meals they ever had...anywhere! Guest found themselves oohing and aahing over the meal. In our estimation when you combine the cuisine, exceptional customer service, price, atmosphere and location, the Ronco deserves to be ranked amongst the top restaurants in the region. We say that after several visits to Switzerland. We truly came away confident that we not only received exceptional value but indeed had experienced a meal that everyone will long remember having enjoyed at this special event. Now, the Ronco may not be able compete capacity wise to some of the other hotels/restaurants in the area (large number of those being foreign owned), but having visited several of those venues, it can compete extraordinarily well in both cuisine and service delivered. Plus, versus the colder feel of a big hotel or restaurant, if you desire an intimate, customer centered atmosphere for either a dinner for two or in our case a wedding party, it out performs them by a large margin. So, if you're ever in the Ascona area, we would Highly recommend visiting the Albergo Ronco. Having introduced the Ronco to our Swiss friends, they too now consider it to be a diamond on the hillside and their favorite places to go when in this part of Switzerland. You really won't be disappointed.

The best about the Hotel is its location overlooking the lake. You can easily spend the whole day at the pool without getting bored. I read a review stating the service was bad and unfriendly, I have a completely different oppinion. From the very first moment the staff made us feel welcome, especially as many of them are part of the family running the hotel. Rooms have no aircon, in the middle of the summer it get's quite hot. Not a major issue for me, but if you're sensitive to heat it might be.

I stayed at Albergo Ronco in order to interview the Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe. They could not have been more helpful - allowing us to photograph him in the pool and accommodating all our needs. Apart from that, I would have been happy to stay there as a tourist anyway. The terraces are fabulous, affording 180 degree views of the lake; breakfasting there was such a treat. I had single room - tiny but perfect, very good value with everything I needed. It is very much a family affair, everyone with a sense of pride and ownership, currently upgrading the rooms. Highly recommended.

We stay in the Albergo Ronco and we were generally very happy. Very friendly atmosphere and nice rooms, place and view. It is just a little bit short of 5 stars, mainly because of the value for money - the place is nice but for the cost does not quite get 5 full stars. However, the restaurant is fantastic and would get 5 stars for sure.
