Just outside Parma and well worth the visit. The food is excellent. We had the parmesan mousse and the tortellini in brodo to start. Both were delicious. We also had the rabbit as a main dish. As delicious as the appetizers. We had the warm...apple cake for dessert. What a treat. Make sure you come hungry. The service is very friendly too. I would gi back anytime. Make sure you book ahad of time.More
Just the booking on the phone was a pleasure. When I specified a rough time I was told not to worry, that they would keep the table for us and it wouldn't matter what time we turned up. The menu was a problem: there was...not one item on it that I would not have been happy to try. We thought we would have 2 courses and possibly share a dessert, but greed took over. The service was friendly and quick. The Polentina Croccante con Pancetta was delicious with the bacon just gently melting onto the hot polenta.... The Tortelli di Erbetta were beautifully rich and perfectly cooked. I had forgotten the passion they put into food in this region! The Rosellina del Pilastro con patate al forno was simply gorgeous, and although I will be eating salad leaves for a week it was worth it! Everyone in the family had an excellent meal. Maybe we overdid it!More
Arrived late on one November rainy evening and wanted a heart-warming dinner. We had a taste of it, but were disappointed by the service and the bill. The highlights: good starters. The averages: main courses like rosellina di Parma and trippa were good, but not...inspiring nor inventive. Quite anonymous actually. The lows: service was erratic - as non-locals we had to ask for parmigiano to be brought at our table as starter. The total price too high for quality and location.More
It may seem a slightly awkward location for one of the best restaurants in the area but don't let this fool you. Great place, classic Parmigian cuisine. As a starter we had fantastic, gorgeous, proscciutto di Parma that had aged 24 months. In an area...where the ham is outstanding this beat them all. Another starter we had was the caramelized onion with Parmezan cream. You'll be amazed how good an onion can taste! Next a pasta with funghi and tortellini with ricotta and bietola. Very simple dishes but with Italian food the magic is in the details, the quality of the produce....and these two pasta's were close to perfection. We didn't stay for the next course (we were looking for a light lunch) so I couldn't really go all out and give the place a 5-star review. But my 4-stars are very very well-deserved......More
With the husband manning the stoves and the Mrs. running the dining room, this Michelin starred trattoria is not to be missed. We started with a selection of cured meats, prosciutto, cotto, pancetta, and salami and the. Had an array of local pastas. Gnocchi, tagliatelle,...spaghetti, and giant tortellinis, all house made and all spectacular. If in the Parma area, you do not want to miss the restaurant.More
We actually visited this restaurant back in May 2014 after visiting the nearby castle. The food and service were outstanding, to a point that it pretty much puts to shame any subsequent Italian dinning experience cooked by anybody else than your Italian grandma!
We lunched at Masticabrodo as part of our food tour and enjoyed one of the best meals of our trip. Delicate tortelli stuffed with ricotta, chard and herbs was delicious, as was tagliatelle with mushrooms. We traded tastes with our tour mates too: crispy, creamy...fried polenta, hams and cheeses, semifreddo, plum crostade, and cookies. Not to mention local wines. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We would definitely go back!More
Location is between suburban and rural, hardly a place one expects to find a quality restaurant. No big signage to invite you in, external appearance is very unassuming. Ambience inside is warm and welcoming, but you're still not expecting anything very special yet. Service is...low key, polite, informal. The food was outstanding, it was more than a meal, it was an experience. Excellent value for the money, would go again.More
this place was open on a sunday night, had all the right stickers on the door, looked buzzy and very local. we were happy to find it open. but the food was pretty dull - my salad starter had seen better days. i think it...was open specially for CIBUS the big food show, which is maybe why it was off colour. who knows. nice, friendly staff which is always a plus.More
We went here as part of a tour. I was told it was a set menu and I was a little apprehensive being half Italian thinking this was going to cater for tourists. I was pleasantly surprised. I was there as a group of 8....It was 25euros a head. Starter was various meats and breads, then a main of homemade pasta followed by dessert of tiramisu and an espresso. Waitress really friendly food delicious and it included wine too. Would definitely recommendMore
This is about food and nothing but food! The restaurant is your typical Italian trattoria that looks like you are visiting somebody in his home. Nothing fancy; the specials are written with a black marker on a plate and a simple paper menu. Simple tables...and chairs and staff that doesn't speak (a lot of) English. But the Food? Wow... Started off our lunch with a great selection of cured and cooked meats and Parmesan. After that I took the tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. A simple dish but I can honestly say that this pasta dish is in my top 3 of best pasta meals ever... The simplicity of the dish combined with great flavors and the excellent (cannot be improved) texture of pasta blew my mind. I l fell in love... Shame that I don't have the opportunity to visit often.More
Recommended by the B&B owner. English menu is available, but not necessary. Good wine selection and the food is amazing, especially the prosciutto selections. I also had the fish. Cream tart with strawberries for dessert. One of the better meals I've had in Italy for...sure.More
A pleasant surprise for such a rural stand alone trattoria. Good selection of pasta, primi, and secondi. Wine list has some good value selections and the staff was very friendly. No one spoke English or did they have an English menu, so if you don't...know at least how to read Italian or at least fake it. This may not we your choice. They were very accommodating, but you may get a surprise if you just point at something and don't know what it is (they won't be able to explain).More
We stopped at a restaurant near the Castle at Torrechiara (Recommended -beautiful frescoes, lovely castle) and found it just closing. The owner recommended Masticabrodo. Just when we thought we had misunderstood the directions, there is was! We sat outside, beside two large tables of Porsche...club members. The waitress spoke a little English, which was a nice bonus. We started with a meat plate that included the best Parma ham ever. And believe me, my husband is a prosciutto di parma junkie and we eat it everywhere. It was aged 24 months and was rich, dark and nutty. I thought it tasted more like a Iberico ham than prosciutto. We then each ordered a pasta, obviously made in house and delectible. A light dessert and espresso finished the meal. I had the house white wine and my husband the red. Both were quite pleasant. Take a drive, go to the castle and then eat at Masticabrodo.
