I had the seafood risotto which was absolutely beautiful and the tiramisu which was also amazing. The staff were friendly and the food came out very quickly. I stumbled upon this place when looking for restaurants close to my accommodation in Florence. Please try this...place as the food was divine! I saw many gluten free options on the menu including pasta and main courses (both fish and meat).More

La Scarpetta is a Florentine gem, offering amazing dishes in a relaxing, casual environment. A short walk from the city center, this restaurant provided a much needed retreat from the busyness of Florence. On our first visit, we had the octopus appetizer, pasta with seafood,...and pasta with octopus. All of these dishes were delicious. For dessert, the cheesecake and the chocolate cake were both yummy. The waiter was friendly and even remembered us when we eventually made our way back for another dinner a few days later-it was that good. On our second visit, we decided to go with the Florentine Steak, which was well prepared and weighed right in front of us before cooking. We had the oven cooked potatoes and grilled vegetables on the side, both very tasty accompaniments to our steak. The waiter recommended a wine pairing which we appreciated. To top it off, the cantucci with vinsanto was the perfect end to our meal. If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet place to enjoy a meal at a reasonable price, La Scarpetta should definitely be on your list. Highly recommend.More

Located just across the street from our apartment for the month, we made it here a few times. Away from the bulk of the tourist traffic, this place was mostly filled with locals when we visited. Serving typical regional food offerings, there are plenty of...options to try to fulfil your palate. One absolute must try on the menu is the Pappardelle al Ragu di Canghiale – pasta with boar ragu. Fantastic! We had some pasta here, meatballs, fish and a mixed meat plate for two that we could barely finish and all was very flavorful. The service can be a little slow (which is far more typical in Italy) due to only 1 waiter in the place but this gives you time to eat slow and enjoy the food. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. Great flavors and the prices are a little better than in the city center in this quaint spot.More

Food was good but waiter did not tell us about cover charge. He knew we could not speak Italian and didn't have much patience with us. When it was time to pay, we noticed the cover charge, so did not tip, because we felt that...it wasn't necessary considering the cover charge. There was no live music. Plus the bill was just short of 40 euro. Exchange rate is R20.38 for 1 euro, yet R824.00 was deducted from my account instead of R794,00? Not sure if he added another 2 euro for tip, but something dodgy happened, as he never gave me the slip for my card.More

The food was really good, the waiters were polite and professional. We had a great experience. If I can give you some advice, get the steak, it was the best one I ever had. One of the best restaurants in Florence for sure!

This was the best meal we had since we arrived in Italy a week ago. The paccheri with porcini mushrooms was outstanding especially matched with a glass of the costa atente amarone wine. We then had had chicken with porcini mushrooms. Finally we had the...grilled bass. The desserts are the die for! The service was outstanding. We highly recommend this gem!More

This place is nice and stuff is very friendly. Unfortunately we were not all equally lucky with food - tagiatelle with ragu were very tasty, carbonara salty as hell and I didn't manage to eat it. Prices: water bottle 2 euro, coperto 1,5 euro, caffe...1,5 euro, beer Ichnusa 6 euro, tagiatelle ragu 11 euro, carbonara 11 euro, tuscan starters 11 euro.More

We had to come a second time, after our great first experience. With just a few nights to enjoy this city, this means something. Following another guests recommendation, we had the awesome seafood pasta and the cut steak with parmigiana and rocket salad (dish of...our week ;)). Luckily, we let us be talked into tasting the tiramisu, which was a real treat. The second evening, we had the steak Fiorentina, which was absolutely delicious. We were “introduced” to our cut of meat upfront, to see and smell it in its beautiful raw state and with news it being weighted. Our evenings were made even better by the friendly and funny staff - thanks to Gabriele for this great experience! We will make sure to be back!More

Our rented apartment was just down the street and being tired from the day we just wanted something close. Without looking at reviews or any prior web search's for good restaurants we just walked to a place close. Wow did we hit the jackpot. Everyone's...eyed opened wide with with their first bite of their dishes. Every dish was fantastic! Loved Grandmas meat balls. Of course we were back the next night as well and again blown away by how good every dish we ordered was.More

The restaurant has a relaxed and welcoming environment. Our server took good care of us and the food was delicious. My wife, mother-in-law and I did a typical two-course meal with appetizer and dessert. Everything was amazing. We had a delicious octopus appetizer, followed by...pasta dishes, and finally a mixed-grill that we shared that had steak, sausages, chicken, and pork chops. Of course, we had a nice bottle of wine. For dessert, we had cheesecake, which is the best I have had in a long time (made in-house). Total bill was 145 Euros, which I thought was reasonable relative to the quantity and high quality. This place is in a working-class neighborhood and attracts locals and tourists alike. At the next table, the family was eating pizza and drinking soda. This is a good option, I believe, for whatever you are looking for.More

Although the decor was quite basic and the restaurant has a simple feel, our first course was very promising. My husband and I chose octopus salad to start, and then gnocchi with ragu sauce for main. Unfortunately the ragu was far too salty for either...of us which was such a shame.More

Courteous and welcoming staff, the menu (very very wide) is representative of the place: concrete. Good dishes, abundant and average price. Well done

What started off as an optimistic evening quickly turned sour. It was New Year’s Eve and we opted out of the special menu for the normal menu due to not needing a five course meal. However after telling the staff twice we were still served...the New Years special. Continuing on we have allergies to shell fish and the first meal was all shell fish. After notifying the staff they start shouting in Italian screaming in the back throwing a temper tantrum. After arguing and trying to fix the situation saying we would pay for what was brought out we finally receive a normal menu.We ordered a filet (medium) and two Bolognese. First, the filet was rare and possibly still had a pulse (see picture). That was 20 euro for a D cut of meat cooked sub standard to the request and smothered with gravy to hide what can only have been taken from a mad cow. Now to the Bolognese. This is Florence and there is a high expectation. What was served was something a child in kindergarten creates in a mommy and me cook class. Barely cooked al dente noodles and short changed on the sauce. The only saving grace was the young guy working. He was the only server and couldn’t have been more than 18. He hustled and took care of 8 tables simultaneously. That and the champagne was fantastic. However, after never seeing the main staff again after explaining our allergies, the horrible yelling that was exhibited after, being ignored by them except for the one young man, the still mooing piece of filet, and a grade C chef boy-Rdee Bolognese I can whole heartedly say avoid this place.More

We went to La Scarpetta for our first dinner after landing in Florence, and it was one of the first impressions of the city. Our dinner was really relaxed and tasty, we were made feel at home and well taken care of. The food was...excellent - the seafood so fresh and yummy, and the hosts gave us a coypke of limoncellos in the house at the end! Highly recommendable.More
