We spent two nights here in November, 2015 to meet a cruise that originated in Lisbon. It's a gut-renovated old house on a popular square. Subway and taxis are nearby. We walked to the Rossio train station (for the train to Sintra) in about 15 minutes, a very scenic and enjoyable walk. There's a post office on the square, and plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
Our room (312) was quite large, with a huge bathroom. I think it was Deluxe or Superior, 300 Euros a night, booked months in advance on the Web. There was a tendency to hit your head on the shelf while bending over the sink, but it was a spacious vanity in any case. We had little view, but could see the Camoes square to the right of our side-street exposure. We liked using the unenclosed stairs, although there are two elevators in this smaller hotel. Soundproof multi-pane windows worked well-couldn't even hear the streetcar go by.
There is a beautiful view from the terrace bar on the roof. Although they clearly give preference to hotel guests, it is sometimes, simply, full-up. It's not very big. Note that lots of people smoke in Portugal. The desk staff was charming and helpful, and spoke excellent English. Our rate included the Breakfast, in the restaurant that we didn't happen to have dinner in, which was very attractive, if closer to regular European buffet (meats, cheeses, one dish of scrambled eggs, great bread and pastries) than to the groaning board most Americans hope for.
Lisbon is a widely dispersed city, so no hotel permits you to walk to every major attraction. Perhaps the most notable attraction near this hotel is the ruined convent and guard barracks involved in the fall of the recent dictatorship in Portugal. There's also a lovely overlook (Miradouro Sao Pedro) above the Rossio train station, and the Jesuit church, Sao Roque. There are vast numbers of popular bars and restaurants in the Bairro Alto neighborhood. I wouldn't worry about walking at night, because there are so many people on the street.
They held our bags when we checked out on the last day, and I tipped the bellman when he brought them to us at 3PM. We saw one group-tour kind of bus pickup at the hotel, but it had no bad effect on our visit, or on breakfast service when the bus pulled up.
