I found Heidi Leyton's private tours through a Google search. I wanted a private (1-on-1), custom tour of Berlin and vicinity over the course of 3 days. Heidi was prompt in replying to my queries and came up with several suggestions since I had more time in Berlin than perhaps most tourists. Unfortunately, she was unable to give the tour in person as she had to be out of town on a family emergency. However, she arranged replacement guides that were outstanding. Based on the itinerary we had agreed to, she chose the right guide for the right day. For example, the 1st day was a 6-7 hour walking tour of Berlin. She chose Alex Veselak, who was a fount of knowledge about various parts of Berlin. For example, I had no idea that there was an outstanding exhibit of JFK's visit to Berlin (where he gave his famous speed) that was the 2nd most comprehensive JFK museum (after the 1st one in Boston, of course)- located on the 2nd floor of what was the Jewish Girls school way back! Alex took me to several places that looked nondescript today yet are redolent of history (most grim history). 2nd day was a tour of the museums. I was only interested in the Pergamon and Neues. She chose Jamie Sewell, a guide who had a Ph.D in archeology! He was a fantastic guide as well and we had several great conversations as we toured the 2 museums. The 3rd day was a visit to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. For that visit she chose Wouter Bernhardt, who accompanied me by train to the camp and gave me an excellent overview of the horrifying history of the camp. All in all, it was an outstanding 3 days in Berlin - mainly because of Heidi's knack for picking the right person for the right task. I would recommend her and the 3 guides that she chose very highly if you are interested in a private, custom tour. Well worth it!!

My brother and I had only a few days and a great deal of interest in Berlin's history. I contacted the very helpful Heidi at the last minute and she arranged for one of her tour guides, Alison, to give us a 3-4 hr tour the next day. It was marvellous. Alison is wonderfully knowledgeable, articulate and friendly. We had a great, informative and fun time with her. Felt like we were old friends by the end of it, and we learned such a lot, including some interesting stories and locations off the usual tourist itinerary. She answered all our questions in detail. It was terrific. I can't recommend her highly enough. Bernadette & Bill, Canada

Our day with Heidi in Berlin was a highlight of our travels and a great way to get to know the city. She is bright, friendly, easy to be with and shares her knowledge with passion and insight - we felt like we spent the day with an old friend. She engaged our 20 year olds beautifully and gave us some great ideas for restaurants and other adventures off the beaten path that we throughly enjoyed. I can't recommend her highly enough!

We are always amazed at how our perspective can change in a short increment of time by one person. We were quite uncertain about visiting Berlin but within 1 hour our concerns were dispelled by this charming, knowledgeable young woman as she described why she settled here as an Israeli/British tour guide. We began with a general overview of the city followed by an in depth tour and discussion about the Jewish community and the history of the Jews in Germany. This was one of the very best, most informative tours we have ever taken. If you plan to visit Berlin you should not pass up the opportunity to experience this marvelous individual who obviously so loves meeting and educating visitors. We departed knowing we had found a new friend.

My wife and I wanted to hire a private guide to see Berlin. Heidi arranged for Dennis to be our guide, and we couldn't have asked for more. Dennis's knowledge of Berlin and its history was encyclopedic, and he was able to translate his knowledge into engaging stories that made our experience come alive. His English was perfect and he was receptive to put together 3 days of tours that responded to our interests. We could not recommend him more highly
